  • Publication number: 20090313517
Abstract: One embodiment relates to a method of transmitting data from a transmitter to a receiver. In the method, a payload data stream is provided which comprises a plurality of payload data units. A container stream is formed which comprises a plurality of containers having respective container identifiers, where a container includes an integer number of the payload data units and where the container identifiers collectively establish a predetermined order for consecutive containers. A codeword stream is formed which comprises a plurality of codewords having respective redundancy information, where a codeword includes at least a portion of the container and where redundancy information of the codeword facilitates detection of erroneous data in the codeword. The codeword is transmitted from the transmitter to the receiver. Other methods and systems are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20090122848
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for calibrating received signal measurements in a digital subscriber line (DSL) device are disclosed. In an exemplary method, a received signal level is measured for each of one or more subcarriers of a digital subscriber line signal and converted into a corresponding measured power level. A corrected received power level is calculated as a function of the measured power level, a reference input impedance value, a nominal loop impedance value, and a pre-determined input impedance value for the DSL device.

  • Patent number: 7519124
Abstract: A method of mitigating transmission delay fluctuations in a communication system having a variable data rate and block-oriented subsystems, such as interleavers. The method comprises interspersing dummy data with genuine data to form a combined data stream for the subsystems. When the data rate decreases, the rate at which dummy data is supplied increases to stabilize the delay. In one embodiment, the dummy data is discarded prior to transmission and may be reintroduced as needed on the receiving end. In another embodiment, the dummy data is transmitted and only discarded after processing at the receiving end. For this later embodiment in a multi-tone system, the dummy data can be sorted onto separate sub-carriers for transmission and the power levels for those carriers can be dropped to reduce overall power consumption and crosstalk. The concept can be used to extend seamless rate adaptation to systems with forward error correction.

  • Publication number: 20090089641
Abstract: One embodiment relates to a method of communicating data between a transmitter and a receiver of a communication system. In this method, a payload data stream is received from a network interface layer. The payload data stream includes data units eligible for retransmission and data units non-eligible for retransmission. These data units are grouped into containers, where a container is associated with a container identifier that distinguishes the container from other containers. The containers are grouped into data transmission units, where a data transmission unit includes at least one container along with redundancy information that facilitates error detection for that data transmission unit. The data transmission units are transmitted to the receiver as a transmission data stream. Other methods and systems are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20080291984
Abstract: One embodiment of the invention relates to a method of data processing. In the method, an initial data stream is received. A series of bytes having a total byte length is selected from the initial data stream, the series of bytes having a span in the initial data stream that is greater than the total byte length. At least one redundancy byte is calculated based on the series of bytes. An output data stream is transmitted over a transmission medium, where the output data stream includes the initial data stream with the at least one redundancy byte therein, and where consecutive bytes in the output data stream have an order that corresponds to an order of consecutive bytes in the initial data stream. Other devices and methods are also described.

  • Patent number: 7388885
Abstract: A splitter circuit (19) serves to combine on the transmission side signals which are to be transmitted in different frequency bands (A-C), as well as to separate on the reception side these signals which are transmitted in different frequency bands. For this purpose, the splitter circuit (19) has a circuit section (13) designed as purely passive, for the rough signal and impedance separation, as well as the filters (3, 4; 9, 10) allocated to the individual transmission and reception sections, for the exact filtering out of the individual signal in each case. These separate filters (3, 4; 9, 10) are arranged in the transmission direction upstream of a corresponding four-wire/two-wire conversion, and in the reception direction downstream of a corresponding two-wire/four-wire conversion, so that the signal stream takes place via these filters in one direction only, and the filters can be designed as purely active filters or digital filters.

  • Publication number: 20080069248
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention relates to a method of transferring data in a communication system. In the method, an initial impulse noise protection value is determined. A number of redundancy bits is added to blocks of data to form codewords as a function of the initial impulse noise protection value, where the impulse noise protection value corresponds to a number of consecutive symbols that can be corrected. The number of symbols that can be correctly transmitted is changed by changing only the number of redundancy bits added to each block of data.
