  • Patent number: 8635246
Abstract: Methods, systems and articles of manufacture are disclosed for upgrading a system while keeping applications continuously available. The upgrade of such a system which consists of several database applications requires an outage for the complete system due to the fact that database objects (e.g. tables, indexes or views) are structurally adjusted or the content of database tables is changed. To overcome this limitation there is provided a method. The method comprises in setting up a temporary failover framework in the same database to allow end-user read and write access to database tables which are not changed during the upgrade outage. The database applications based on these tables are thus made continuously available.

  • Patent number: 8210546
Abstract: A tube holder for a tube filling machine includes a cup-shaped housing having a tube receptacle that opens towards the top and into which one end area of a tube can be inserted. At least one vertical groove is formed in the area of the inner wall of the tube receptacle into which a clamping element is inserted, wherein the clamping element can be radially displaced substantially perpendicularly to the longitudinal central axis of the tube receptacle and is pivotably disposed about a pivot axis that extends substantially tangentially relative to the inner wall of the tube receptacle. A clamping force that acts radially from the outside onto the inserted tube can be applied by the clamping element under the action of upper and lower spring elements. The pivot axis is thereby formed on a pivot bearing which permits radial displacement of the pivot axis.

  • Patent number: 7461097
Abstract: In a software system (200/210/220) with a business application (200), database migration from a source database (210) to a physically different target database (230) is performed by a migration tool (260) that evaluates database instructions (201) that the application (200) consecutively sends to the source database (210). The migration tool (260) stores representations (254, 255) of an action type (205, D, I, U) and of a key (231) in a log table (250) when an action type coincides with a predetermined action type (D, I, U); copies source table entries to the target table (240); and adjusts entries in the target table that have keys represented in the log table (250). During migration, the application (200) and the source table continue communicating.

  • Patent number: 7370629
Abstract: In a method for operating a spark-ignition internal combustion engine with direct fuel injection in the post-start phase at low temperatures, fuel is supplied to the combustion air in a pilot injection (MH) of a first fuel quantity during an intake stroke of the internal combustion engine such that the pilot injection (MH) forms a homogeneous, lean air/fuel mixture (?>1) in substantially the entire combustion chamber, and a main injection (MS) of a second fuel quantity is subsequently injected into the combustion chamber during a compression stroke directly before the ignition time (ZT), said main injection (MS) forming in the region of the spark plug a stratified, rich air/fuel mixture (?<1), which is then ignited by the spark plug.
