Publication number: 20080044702Abstract: A diagnostic system for determining whether a rotor shaft of a compressor is unbalanced. The compressor includes a displacement sensor that measures the displacement of the rotor shaft as it is rotating. The sensor dynamic frequency signal is sent to a bandpass filter that filters out an eigen-frequency frequency that is a function of shaft elasticity and rotor dynamics. The filtered frequency signal is then rectified by a rectifier to make the filtered frequency signal positive. The rectified signal is then passed through a low pass filter that converts the rectified signal to a DC signal. The DC signal is then sent to a controller that determines if the amplitude of the signal is above a predetermined threshold, which indicates a problem with the balance of the compressor.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 15, 2006Publication date: February 21, 2008Applicant: GM GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS, INC.Inventors: Oliver Maier, Bernd Peter Elgas, Ulrich Dumke, Peter Willimowski

Patent number: 6261931Abstract: A method for growing high-quality gallium nitride over a substrate is disclosed. The method comprises growing first layer with a high dislocation density over the substrate, a second layer having a high number of point defects and a reduced dislocation density as compared to the dislocation density of the first layer over the first layer, and a third layer having a reduced number of point defects as compared to the second layer over the second layer. The resulting gallium nitride is semi-insulating, which inhibits parasitic current flow and parasitic capacitive effects, yet it not so insulating that electron flow in adjacent transistor channels is inhibited.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 1998Date of Patent: July 17, 2001Assignee: The Regents of the University of CaliforniaInventors: Stacia Keller, Bernd Peter Keller, Umesh Kumar Mishra, Steven P. Patent number: 6093270Abstract: The proposed process for bonding together two substrates with an anhydrous or low-water-content partially crystalline adhesive which is solid at room temperature is characterized in that the adhesive is first activated by internal and/or external friction. The substrates are then joined together with the adhesive between them. When allowed to stand, the structure attains its final strength after a period of between a few seconds to a few days. The friction destroys the crystalline structure and causes the adhesive to become gluey, and re-crystallization gives it its final strength and eliminates the gluey quality. The adhesive is based preferably on polyester or polyurethane and used preferably in the form of a gum stick without impermeable packaging. It is especially suitable for bonding paper, since it does not cause corrugation.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 1997Date of Patent: July 25, 2000Assignee: Henkel Kommanditgesellscahft auf AktienInventors: Andreas Ferencz, Norbert Huebner, Herbert Fischer, Lothar Unger, Bernd Peters, Wolf-Ruediger Mueller, Horst Donothek, Joerg Kuhn
