  • Patent number: 9554338
Abstract: A method and system for improving the reception of uplink transmissions in a heterogeneous wireless communication system includes a high-power node such as a macro-cell and a low-power node such as a femto-cell or pico-cell. To address an uplink imbalance where a nearby low-power node power controls a UE such that uplink transmissions of an HSDPA control channel are poorly received at the serving cell, an RNC can instruct the UE to boost its uplink transmit power, remove the UE from soft handover, or disable power control of the UE by the low-power node. To address inter-cell interference, the RNC can limit the UE transmit power and/or enable the victim cell to suppress the interference. Further, a common control channel can be used to power control UEs outside of the convention set of UEs available for power control.

  • Patent number: 9407507
Abstract: Systems and methods provide a discovery protocol allowing nodes that are interested in knowing a network topology to discover other nodes in the network topology. The discovery protocol includes two message types, topology discovery messages and topology query messages. A node issues topology discovery messages upon powering up, at periodic intervals, or upon detecting a change in network topology. The topology discovery messages are broadcast to all nodes on a network and identify the issuing node to the network. A topology query message is sent to a particular node and requests a response from the receiving node regarding the neighboring nodes of the receiving node. The querying node can use the response data to discover other nodes and to send the discovered nodes query messages such that the node can determine a network topology to a desired level of depth within the network.

  • Patent number: 9401874
Abstract: Access point functionality of a network device may be disabled, resulting in a coverage hole in a communication network and affecting performance of a client device. Various techniques can be implemented for detecting and minimizing coverage holes. In one embodiment, the network device can selectively establish a communication link with the client device depending on whether the client device is in a coverage hole and depending on whether the client device can detect another access point in the communication network. In some embodiments, the client device can determine that it is in a coverage hole in response to detecting a reserved SSID and can accordingly notify a central coordinator of the communication network. In some embodiments, the central coordinator can identify the network device (with disabled access point functionality) that can eliminate the coverage hole and can cause the network device to enable its access point functionality.

  • Patent number: 9294235
Abstract: In aspects of the present disclosure, a user equipment receives inter-NodeB multi-point transmissions, and a multipoint aggregation component detects a gap in the sequence numbers, delays transmitting a not acknowledged signal (NAK) by starting a NAK delay timer, and transmits, by a transceiver, NAK for the gap in sequence numbers in response to the NAK delay timer expiring and detecting that the gap has not been filled during the delaying. If the Medium Access Control (MAC) entity as the respective NodeB identifies itself to the Radio Link Control (RLC), out-of-order delivery (skew) can eventually be distinguished from genuine data loss before the NAK delay timer expires based upon tracking the highest sequence numbers received. Adaptive NAK delay timer can be performed by monitoring skew duration.

  • Patent number: 9247440
Abstract: A hybrid device can implement functionality to automatically configure itself to form a home network with other network devices. If it is determined that the hybrid device is the central access point of a hybrid network, operating parameters are determined for the central access point. The central access point can then operate in conjunction with other non-CAP hybrid devices of the hybrid device to determine how to configure the non-CAP hybrid device. The configuration of the non-CAP hybrid device can be determined based, at least in part, on a communication link performance measurement between the CAP and the non-CAP hybrid device. Furthermore, the hybrid network can also be monitored to ensure that the hybrid devices do not repeatedly or randomly switch between different configurations.
