Patent number: 8989004Abstract: A method and apparatus for wireless communication may provide a multi-link PDCP sublayer in a radio network controller capable of allocating PDCP PDUs among a plurality of RLC entities for use in a multi-point HSDPA network. Some aspects of the disclosure address issues relating to out-of-order delivery of the PDCP PDUs to a UE, such as unnecessary retransmissions. That is, the disclosed multi-link PDCP may be capable of distinguishing between sequence number gaps that are caused by physical layer transmission failures and those caused merely by skew.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 2011Date of Patent: March 24, 2015Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Danlu Zhang, Rohit Kapoor, Bibhu Prasad Mohanty, Weiyan Ge, Jilei Hou

Publication number: 20150052255Abstract: Access point functionality of a network device may be disabled, resulting in a coverage hole in a communication network and affecting performance of a client device. Various techniques can be implemented for detecting and minimizing coverage holes. In one embodiment, the network device can selectively establish a communication link with the client device depending on whether the client device is in a coverage hole and depending on whether the client device can detect another access point in the communication network. In some embodiments, the client device can determine that it is in a coverage hole in response to detecting a reserved SSID and can accordingly notify a central coordinator of the communication network. In some embodiments, the central coordinator can identify the network device (with disabled access point functionality) that can eliminate the coverage hole and can cause the network device to enable its access point functionality.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 14, 2013Publication date: February 19, 2015Applicant: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Yanjun Sun, Peerapol Tinnakornsrisuphap, Sai Yiu Duncan Ho, Bibhu Prasad Mohanty

Publication number: 20150049616Abstract: A hybrid device can implement functionality to automatically configure itself to form a home network with other network devices. If it is determined that the hybrid device is the central access point of a hybrid network, operating parameters are determined for the central access point. The central access point can then operate in conjunction with other non-CAP hybrid devices of the hybrid device to determine how to configure the non-CAP hybrid device. The configuration of the non-CAP hybrid device can be determined based, at least in part, on a communication link performance measurement between the CAP and the non-CAP hybrid device. Furthermore, the hybrid network can also be monitored to ensure that the hybrid devices do not repeatedly or randomly switch between different configurations.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 15, 2013Publication date: February 19, 2015Applicant: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Sai Yiu Duncan Ho, Peerapol Tinnakornsrisuphap, Etan Gur Cohen, Bibhu Prasad Mohanty, Brian Michael Buesker, Rajesh Kumar, Anthony James Cowan

Patent number: 8891387Abstract: In a communication system, user equipment (UE) conditionally performs uplink transmit diversity (ULTD) either by Switched Antenna Transmit Diversity (SATD) or Beamforming Transmit Diversity (BFTD) using a first antenna and a second antenna. Either a serving node or the UE determines that uplink transmit diversity is conditionally authorized. Either a serving node or the UE measures a value. The UE transmits using ULTD in response to determining that an enabling condition based on the value is satisfied. The UE can also disable uplink transmit diversity in response to determining that a disabling condition based on the value is satisfied. The disabling condition comprises a disabling threshold that equals the enabling condition comprising an enabling threshold with a threshold adjustment for hysteresis.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 2011Date of Patent: November 18, 2014Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Bibhu Prasad Mohanty, Sharad Deepak Sambhwani, Chengjin Zhang, Daniel F. Publication number: 20140321480Abstract: A named data networking (NDN) architecture may be implemented within a local area network. A local area networking naming convention may be used in relation to named content from a variety of NDN-enabled devices. A network node (such as an NDN gateway or NDN bridge) may manage the local area networking naming convention and assign a name for the named content of the NDN-enabled device. A network-assigned name in accordance with a local area networking naming convention may be used for group control of multiple NDN-enabled devices. An NDN gateway may be used for translating NDN protocol layer communication to an IP network protocol layer. An NDN bridge may be used for bridging NDN protocol layer communication between various different segments of a local area network. NDN-enabled devices may benefit from longer sleep cycles based upon NDN content caching implemented in the local area network.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 9, 2014Publication date: October 30, 2014Applicant: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Qi Xue, Peerapol Tinnakornsrisuphap, Bibhu Prasad Mohanty

Publication number: 20130322418Abstract: An access point selector can implement functionality for selecting an access point that should establish a communication link with a client device attempting to join a communication network. The access point selector can receive notifications from access points, in response to the client device's button being activated. Information in the received notifications can be analyzed and one of the access points (that transmitted the notifications) can be selected to establish the communication link with the client device. In some embodiments, prior to selecting an access point that should establish the communication link with the client device, the access point selector can attempt to identify a designated access point (DAP) in the communication network. The access point selector may execute operations for selecting the access point only if the DAP cannot be identified in the communication network.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 30, 2013Publication date: December 5, 2013Inventors: Sai Yiu Duncan Ho, Bibhu Prasad Mohanty, Etan Gur Cohen

Publication number: 20130250810Abstract: Systems and methods provide a discovery protocol allowing nodes that are interested in knowing a network topology to discover other nodes in the network topology. The discovery protocol includes two message types, topology discovery messages and topology query messages. A node issues topology discovery messages upon powering up, at periodic intervals, or upon detecting a change in network topology. The topology discovery messages are broadcast to all nodes on a network and identify the issuing node to the network. A topology query message is sent to a particular node and requests a response from the receiving node regarding the neighboring nodes of the receiving node. The querying node can use the response data to discover other nodes and to send the discovered nodes query messages such that the node can determine a network topology to a desired level of depth within the network.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 30, 2012Publication date: September 26, 2013Applicant: QUALCOMM INCORPORATEDInventors: Saiyiu Duncan HO, Bibhu Prasad MOHANTY, Etan Gur COHEN, Rahul MALIK, Randall Coleman GELLENS, Rohit KAPOOR
