  • Patent number: 9716239
Abstract: Some embodiments include a method of preparing a phototuned metal-organic framework by forming a first solution by dissolving ZrOCl2.8H2O in dimethylformamide (DMF) and formic acid, mixing and dissolving 1,4-phenylenediacrylic acid in a second solution of dimethylformamide (DMF) and trimethylamine, and at least partially mixing the first and second solutions to form a mixture. The method further includes sealing the mixture in an autoclave and heating the mixture to above ambient temperature for a specified period of time to prepare ZrPDA metal-organic framework, and extracting the ZrPDA metal-organic framework and at least partially reacting to a specified degree at least some of ZrPDA metal-organic framework through [2+2] cycloaddition reactions. The specified degree can be tunable based at least in part on at least one of the intensity of UV radiation, the exposure time, and the UV wavelength.

  • Publication number: 20170182453
Abstract: A carbon dioxide capture and release method of forming a MOF matrix material including at least one metal-organic-framework crystal that includes at least one metal ion or metal ion cluster coordinated to polydentate organic ligands. The method includes forming a positive moisture swing CO2 host by application of at least a portion of the MOF matrix material to at least a portion of a good, and exposing the good to a feed gas. The method also includes altering the absorption and desorption of CO2 in the CO2 host through a swing absorption/desorption process of moisture content, where an equilibrium pressure of CO2 over the CO2 host is based at least in part on the moisture content. The metal-organic-framework crystal can be UIO-66 including Zr6O4(OH)4(CO2)12 clusters linked by terephthalate acid ligands, and/or Zr6O4(OH)4(CO2)12 clusters linked by amino-terephthalic acid ligands, and/or Zr6O4(OH)4(CO2)12 clusters linked by nitro-terephthalic acid ligands.

  • Publication number: 20170145599
Abstract: Some embodiments include a method of preparing polymer nanofiber composites using a cross-linkable polymer precursor solvated with a solvent, and forming a nanofiber precursor by mixing with a metal-organic-framework (MOF) crystal material that includes a metal ion coupled to at least one multidentate ligand. Further, the method can include forming a plurality of nanofibers by electro-spinning the nanofiber precursor, where at least a portion of the nanofibers includes a dispersion of the first MOF crystal material. The method can include crosslinking the plurality of nanofibers by irradiating the plurality of nanofibers with UV light, IR light, visible light, gamma radiation, and/or electro-beam radiation. Further, the method can include applying a second MOF crystal material between the cross-linked nanofibers and the first MOF material.
