The apparatus may further include a headphone controller to control the first headphone. The headphone controller may receive an audio signal from a portable electronic device and/or the headphone controller may transmit digital information representing speech, sound, or music to the first headphone.     Abstract: Devices, systems, and techniques are provided for integrating a touch screen with a fingerprint detection module as an assembly for a mobile device. The integrated touch screen/fingerprint sensor assembly includes at least two glass layers bonded together to provide overall mechanical strength for the touch screen display. The upper glass layer is a toughened/hardened cover glass that does not have an opening for fitting the fingerprint detection module through this glass layer. The lower glass layer is a support glass layer underneath the hardened cover glass to provide additional mechanical strength and to include an opening at a location close to an end of the support glass layer. The integrated touch screen/fingerprint sensor assembly also includes a fingerprint detection module positioned within the opening of the support glass layer and directly underneath the hardened cover glass.

    Abstract: Devices, systems, and techniques are provided for enabling device-to-device communications between a first device equipped with a fingerprint detection module that includes a metal contact and a second device equipped with a capacitive coupling port. In one aspect, a technique for enabling the device-to-device communications includes: positioning the first device and the second device so that the metal contact of the fingerprint detection module of the first device is in capacitive coupling with the capacitive coupling port of the second device; and establishing device-to-device communication between the first device and the second device through electrical signaling between the metal contact of the first device and the capacitive coupling port of the second device. During the device-to-device communication, the metal contact operates as a transmitting and receiving electrode for sending and receiving electrical signals to and from the capacitive coupling port.

    Abstract: Devices, systems, and techniques are provided for performing human fingerprint detection and authentication for authenticating a request to access a locked mobile device equipped with a fingerprint detection module. In one aspect, responsive to detecting a contact from an object with the fingerprint detection module, described technique can be used to determines whether the contact from the object is from human skin. When determined that the detected contact from the object is from human skin, a presence of a human fingerprint can be detected from the object making contact. The detected fingerprint data can be obtained from the object and compared against stored fingerprint profiles associated with an authorized user of the locked mobile device. Based on the comparing, the request to access the locked mobile device can be granted.

Optical sensing of a position on a two-dimensional surface and a position in a three-dimensional space can be achieved for various optical touch sensing applications. In one implementation, an apparatus can include a screen or display, an optical stylus or optical pointer, and two or more optical angle sensors which determine, respectively, a first angle between the first optical angle sensor and a position of light at the screen and a second angle between the second optical angle sensor and the position of light at the screen.
