Patent number: 12506776Abstract: Technologies are disclosed for mitigating attempts to capture traffic on a network using unauthorized advertisements. Responsive to detecting an authorized advertisement for a path to a service on the network, a mitigation/orchestration service may determine a synthetic route advertisement that is configured to win back the captured traffic (e.g., by providing a route specificity that is at least equal to the unauthorized advertisement) and propagate the synthetic route advertisement from routers in the network. The won back traffic may be directed through a backbone of the network to the service.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 2022Date of Patent: December 23, 2025Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Jonathan Phillibert, Kushal Mall, Michael Marano, Bobby Brown, Mario Souza, Eric Andrew Rubin-Smith, Thomas Bradley Scholl, Michael W. Patent number: 12413519Abstract: A system is disclosed for programming target devices with a filtered (reduced) set of route updates. The system can be divided into a backend system and a frontend system. The backend system analyzes all routes being used and generates a prefix list used for filtering. The frontend system can filter the route updates to target routers and switches to ensure that the number of prefixes installed in a forwarding table of the target routers or switches does not exceed a configured amount. Different frontend systems can coordinate to prevent deviations in the forwarding tables. More specifically, different frontend systems can synchronize with each other to ensure that a union of hot prefixes they propagate always remains under a configured prefix count. The backend system can be responsible for computing and maintaining a sorted list of prefixes, which can be at a per-site or per-service granularity.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 2022Date of Patent: September 9, 2025Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Tahir Azim, Benjamin Villain, Andrey Sokolov, Bobby Brown, Lincoln Travis Dale, Stefan Christian Richter, Apoorv Srivastava

Patent number: 12341805Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to systems and methods for utilization of network mitigation techniques in the form of null address routing to mitigate coordinated DDOS attacks. One or more computing devices can install malware code into a network device after exploiting a vulnerability of the network device. A monitoring and mitigation service can monitor network devices and detect malware code installed on the network-based service. The monitoring and mitigation service can identify the internet protocol (IP) address or any routing information regarding the computing devices that sent the malware code. Based on the identified information, the monitoring and mitigation service can identify and implement the network mitigation information in the form of null routing addresses that will cause network communications associated with the identified computing device to be terminated or otherwise not delivered to the intended network-based resources.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 2022Date of Patent: June 24, 2025Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Kelly Anne Rooker, Lewis Iain McLean, Andrew Robert Hassall, Grace Marie Hatamyar, Thomas Bradley Scholl, Kushal Mall, Darshan Reddy, Bradford Sachin Chatterjee, Bobby Brown, Sidath Manawadu, Karthik Chandrashekar, John Shields, Thomas William Bray, Benjamin Patrick Albertson-Gass

Patent number: 12284110Abstract: Technologies are disclosed for performing context-aware routing of traffic based on an application of a series of filters and/or selectors to determine an optimal group of interfaces for servicing traffic relating to a prefix. A traffic management control plane processes input data corresponding to aggregated telemetry data for a network by determining candidate groups of interfaces to service a network prefix and applies tunable filters and/or selectors to the candidate groups to determine a targeted group to use for servicing traffic corresponding to the prefix. The determined targeted group is mapped to the prefix in a mapping result, which is then provided to an actuator interface to control network devices to inject the new mapping into the network to control traffic according to the mapping.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2022Date of Patent: April 22, 2025Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Joan Barcelo Llado, Eric Charles Briffa, Bobby Brown, Kenan Yang, Seyed Arash Sadrieh, Tahir Azim, Julien Ridoux, Harvo Reyzell Jones, Thomas Bradley Scholl, Ali Khayam, Robert Louis Mosher, Michael W. Patent number: 12155690Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to systems and methods for utilization of network mitigation techniques in the form of null address routing to mitigate coordinated DDOS attacks. A monitoring and mitigation service can characterize a command and control node as compromised or otherwise manipulated for purposes of generating distributed attacks. The monitoring and mitigation service can then identify network mitigation information in the form of null routing addresses that will cause network communications associated with the identified command and control node to be terminated or otherwise not delivered to the intended network-based resources. The monitoring and mitigation service can propagate the null routing address to routing components. The network mitigation information can be associated with expiration criteria for the routing components that receive and implement the network mitigation technique.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 2021Date of Patent: November 26, 2024Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Kelly Anne Rooker, Thomas Bradley Scholl, Kushal Mall, Darshan Narayana Reddy, Lewis Iain McLean, Andrew Robert Hassall, Grace Marie Hatamyar, Bradford Sachin Chatterjee, Sidath Manawadu, Bobby Brown, John Shields, Karthik Chandrashekar
