Abstract: Color formation in aliphatic amines during storage is prevented by contacting the amines before they develop objectionable color with ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid, salts or ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid, nitrilotris acetic acid, salts of nitrilotris acetic acid, nitrilotris methylenephosphonic acid, salts of nitrilotris methylenephosphonic acid, 8-hydroxy-quinoline or mixtures of the above compounds.

Abstract: (Hydrocarbylthio)phenols containing hydrocarbylthio groups in either or both of the meta positions, relative to the hydroxy group, on a phenolic ring are prepared by reacting phenolic compounds with an excess of hydrocarbyl disulfide in the presence of catalytic amounts of an aluminum phenoxide. Novel and useful (hydrocarbylthio)phenols containing hydrocarbylthio groups in either of both of the meta positions, relative to the hydroxy group, on a phenolic ring can be prepared by this process. (Hydrocarbylthio)phenols containing hydrocarbylthio groups in either of both of the meta positions, relative to the hydroxy group, on a phenolic ring are effective antioxidants for organic material normally susceptible to oxidative deterioration, such as mineral oil.

Abstract: (Hydrocarbylthio)aromatic amines are prepared by reacting an aromatic amine, such as an aminobenzene, with a hydrocarbyl disulfide, such as an alkyl disulfide. The reaction is preferably conducted in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst, such as aluminum chloride.

Abstract: An alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal salt of an acyloxybenzenesulfonate of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is a hydrocarbyl group containing up to 30 carbon atoms selected from alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, aralkyl and M is an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal is prepared by reacting at elevated temperature the corresponding hydroxybenzene sulfonate salt of the formula: ##STR2## with an aryl ester of the formula: ##STR3## wherein R is as defined above.

Abstract: A process for making mixed dialkylmagnesiums wherein magnesium metal is reacted with ethylene and an alkyl halide in the presence of a hydrocarbon solvent and in a substantially moisture-free and ether-free atmosphere, under relatively high pressure and at a relatively high temperature followed by separation of undissolved solids from the resulting solution. A composition of matter produced by the process comprising dialkylmagnesium compounds having at least four different alkyl groups, a hydrocarbon solvent and a small amount of an alkyl or alkoxy aluminum compound.
