  • Patent number: 11871330
Abstract: Systems, devices, and techniques described herein relate to migrating a communication session from a path including a stressed user plane function (UPF) to a path including a replacement UPF. A communication session may traverse a first path including the first UPF. After establishing the communication session, the first UPF may be determined to be stressed. In response, the communication session can be proactively migrated to a second path including a second UPF. According to various implementations, the existing communication session can be maintained during the migration, thereby substantially eliminating interruptions caused by the stressed first UPF.

  • Publication number: 20230337004
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for transmitting subscriber information via HTTPS. Upon a UE initiating an HTTPS transaction to a server, the gateway reads an SNI header of the HTTPS transaction or a destination IP address of the server. If the SNI header or the destination IP address in the HTTPS transaction matches a pre-configured SNI header or destination IP address that requires subscriber information, the gateway copies a portion of an HTTPS message corresponding to the HTTPS transaction. The gateway initiates a secured connection to the server via HTTPS and forwards the subscriber information to the server, including the portion of the HTTPS message used to correlate the subscriber information to the original HTTPS transaction. Upon successfully correlating the subscriber information to the original HTTPS transaction, an acknowledgement is received that the HTPPS transaction is successful.

  • Patent number: 11751055
Abstract: Integrity protection is used to assist in ensuring the secure transmission of wireless data within a cellular network. Instead of performing integrity protection on each packet data unit (PDU) transmitted/received within a PDU session, integrity protection is performed on a portion of PDUs transmitted within a cellular network. For instance, partial integrity protection may be performed on at least one predetermined PDU (e.g., the first, second, fourth, . . . ) that is transmitted via a Physical Downlink Shared Channel (PDSCH)/Physical Uplink Shared Channel (PUSCH) during a communication session. By performing partial integrity protection, user data may be transmitted more quickly throughout the cellular network, compared to performing full integrity protection, while still providing integrity protection.

  • Patent number: 11743704
Abstract: Techniques for handling emergency calls in a fifth generation (5G) telecommunication network are discussed herein. Some 5G-compatible user equipment (UEs) support 5G emergency calls, while other 5G-compatible UEs do not support 5G emergency calls. If a UE supports 5G emergency calls, the 5G telecommunication network may instruct the UE during network registration to use the 5G telecommunication network for any emergency calls attempted later. However, if a UE does not support 5G emergency calls, the 5G telecommunication network may instruct the UE during network registration to instead use Long-Term Evolution (LTE) emergency fallback procedures for emergency calls. Such LTE emergency fallback procedures can cause the 5G telecommunication network to steer the UE to LTE for an emergency call almost immediately after receiving a service request from the UE, even though the 5G telecommunication network itself supports emergency calls.

  • Patent number: 11743711
Abstract: Methods, systems, and non-transitory computer readable media for enforcing a steering of roaming (SoR) decision. More particularly, enforcing the SoR decision includes receiving, at a proxy and from a user equipment (UE) located in a visitor network, a registration message to register with a home network, the registration message including an identifier of the visitor network. The proxy routes the registration message to a steering controller to determine a SoR policy decision. The proxy then enforces the SoR policy decision of the steering controller.

  • Patent number: 11729798
Abstract: Determining when to display a Fifth Generation (5G) service indicator is described herein. In an example, a network can compare capabilities supported by a user equipment (UE) with capabilities available to the UE (e.g., in a geographic area of the UE) to determine whether the UE can display the 5G service indicator. In some examples, such capabilities can be determined based at least in part on E-UTRAN New Radio-Dual Connectivity (EN-DC) combinations of frequency bands.

  • Publication number: 20230062145
Abstract: In a telecommunication network, network slices can be identified by slice identifiers used within a core network. The same slice identifiers can also be used by elements of an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) to identify the network slices. For example, a Home Subscriber Server (HSS) can be provisioned with user data associated with a user equipment (UE), including a slice identifier of a network slice that the UE is assigned to use. The HSS can provide the slice identifier to an S-CSCF in the IMS when the UE registers with the IMS. The S-CSCF can share the slice identifier with other IMS elements, such as a P-CSCF and/or one or more application servers. Accordingly, the IMS elements can determine key performance indicators (KPIs) and perform other operations in association with usage of network slices by UEs, based on the same slice identifiers used within the core network.

  • Patent number: 11394752
Abstract: When a user equipment (UE) registers with an Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), a serving call session control function (S-CSCF) of the IMS can obtain user profile information associated with the UE from a Home Subscriber Server (HSS). The user profile information may include a priority indicator, such as an indication that a user associated with the UE is a Wireless Priority Services (WPS) user or other high priority user. In that situation, the S-CSCF can inform a proxy call session control function (P-CSCF) of the IMS that the user is a WPS user or other high priority user by sending a dedicated priority message to the P-CSCF, separately from sending a registration confirmation message to the P-CSCF.

  • Patent number: 11316708
Abstract: A Policy and Charging Rules Function (PCRF) can maintain a mapping table that associates gateway identifiers of gateways in a packet core network with corresponding IP address ranges. Based on an IP address of user equipment (UE), the PCRF can identify which of the IP address ranges in the mapping table over the UE's IP address, and which gateway identifier is mapped to that IP address range. The PCRF can accordingly contact the identified gateway to establish a Gx session for the UE with the gateway, such as restoring a previous Gx session or establishing a new Gx session.

  • Publication number: 20220046505
Abstract: An access network can allocate a bearer for a network service associated with a quality-of-service (QoS) value (QV) and a retention-priority value (RPV), and determine a bearer ID for the service based on the QV, the RPV, and a supplemental priority value (SPV) different from the QV and from the RPV. Upon handover of a terminal, session(s) carried by a bearer allocated by the terminal can be terminated. That bearer can be selected using IDs of the bearers and a comparison function that, given two bearer IDs, determines which respective bearer should be terminated before the other. Upon handover of a terminal to an access network supporting fewer bearers per terminal than the terminal has allocated, a network node can select a bearer based on respective QVs and RPVs of a set of allocated bearers. The network node can deallocate the selected bearer.

  • Patent number: 11122471
Abstract: Registration of a user equipment (UE) with a circuit-switched (CS) network can be controlled in an “on-demand” fashion by waiting for a trigger event before registering the UE with an available CS network. In some embodiments, CS registration of a UE may be triggered when the mobility management entity (MME) node receives, from the UE, a service request that was sent using Non-Access Stratum (NAS) protocol, such as an extended service request (ESR) or a short message service (SMS) over NAS request. In some embodiments, CS registration of a first UE may be triggered when the MME node receives, from a home subscriber server (HSS), a notification of an incoming session request originating from a second UE to establish a communication session over a CS network with the first UE.
