  • Patent number: 10400955
Abstract: A solvent storage and depressurization system is described. The system allows a volume of solvent to be stored and used at low pressure, thereby providing safety benefits and regulatory simplicity. The system includes an external expansion tank that is located outside of an extraction facility and that contains a solvent. The system also includes an internal storage tank that is located inside of the extraction facility and that provides a solvent supply to a solvent user, such as a phytochemical extraction system. The external and internal tanks are separated and connected via a duplex manifold. The manifold allows gas below a first pressure level to pass from the external expansion tank to the internal storage tank, and allows gas above a second pressure level to pass from the internal storage tank back to the external expansion tank, wherein the second pressure level is greater than the first pressure level.

  • Patent number: 10334945
Abstract: A modular rack for mounting components of a phytochemical extraction system is described. The module rack includes at least two legs and one or more frame modules that are each at least 2 units in length. Multiple frame modules can be combined to create racks of width N, where N is an integer greater than 2 units in length. Each frame module may also include mounting devices configured to removably attach extraction columns to the frame module.

  • Patent number: 10315130
Abstract: This disclosure describes systems, methods, and devices for phytochemical extraction. One example extraction system includes two solvent columns, a material column, and a dewaxing column. The solvent columns store and provide solvent for stripping target chemicals from plant material in the material column. The solvent mixed with target chemicals passes into the dewaxing column, where the target chemicals are separated from waxes and lipids. Cooling is applied to elements of the system by way of an open-loop CO2 refrigeration method. Solvent is moved from the solvent columns to the material column by creating a pressure differential between the two solvent columns.

  • Publication number: 20180065060
Abstract: A short-path distillation apparatus and method of operation are described. An example short-path distillation apparatus includes a double-walled bulb-shaped condensing head. The double wall forms a coolant chamber that substantially envelopes an inner condensate chamber. Coolant is introduced into and removed from the coolant chamber via ports in the outer wall of the head. Condensate in gaseous form is introduced into the condensate chamber where it comes in contact with and condenses as distillate upon the cold inner surface of the condensate chamber. Condensed distillate travels down the inner surface of the condensate chamber and then into a distillate outlet conduit that transports the condensed distillate to a collection vessel.
