  • Publication number: 20190346340
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a coiled-tubing system, a coiled tubing inspection tool and methods for using same. The system comprises coiled tubing that is wound about a coiled tubing reel and a coiled tubing injector head that is connected to an oil-and-gas well above a pressurized zone. The coiled-tubing system also includes the inspection tool that is connected to the well within the pressurized zone. The inspection tool is configured to generate a magnetic field and to detect changes in the magnetic field as a section of coiled tubing approaches, moves through and moves away from the inspection tool. Detecting changes in the magnetic field may be indicative of a damaged section of the coiled tubing.

  • Publication number: 20190169981
Abstract: A detection system for detecting when a blocking body has passed through a location within a well. The detection system includes a blocking body that is introducible into the well and is operatively configured to produce a detectable signal, and a detection tool that is configured to detect the detectable signal and to generate an output signal that indicates a detectable event.

  • Patent number: 10221678
Abstract: An apparatus for measuring a pipe within a well structure comprises a tubular body extending between first and second ends and having an inner surface defining a passage therethrough and an outer surface formed of a non-magnetic alloy metal. The apparatus further comprises a pair of flanges each connected to one of the first or second ends of the tubular body having a passage therethrough corresponding to the passage of the tubular body, each of the pair of flanges being connectable inline with the well structure. The apparatus further comprises at least one sensor stack being locatable around an outside of the tubular body comprising a sensor adapted to measure magnetic field strength and at least one magnetic stack being locatable around the outside of the tubular body comprising at least one magnet.

  • Publication number: 20180149016
Abstract: An apparatus that includes at least two well control mechanisms and at least one sensor to avoid collision between a section of a tubing string coupler or that is moving through the apparatus and a wellbore to which the apparatus is coupled. The sensors detect the presence of magnetic objects, such as sections of a tubing string, and measure their respective outer diameters (OD). The sensors detect when any larger OD sections of the tubing string before the larger OD section can collide with one of the well control mechanisms. The sensors direct their outputs to a controller that can identify an imminent collision state. When an imminent collision state is identified, the controller will send commands to stop movement of the tubular to avoid the collision. Movement of the tubular will not resume until the well control mechanism has been actuated to avoid collision with the larger OD section.

  • Publication number: 20150242112
Abstract: Embodiments are disclosed that relate to human interface devices having touch sensors. For example, one disclosed embodiment provides a human interface device including a touch sensor comprising two or more touch sensing units, each touch sensing unit comprising a touch sensing pad and a charge accumulation capacitor in communication with the touch sensing pad, the charge accumulation capacitor having a larger capacitance than the touch sensing pad. The human interface device further includes a controller in communication with each touch sensing unit, the controller being configured to acquire a touch sensing sample from each touch sensing unit by iteratively charging the touch sensing pad of the touch sensing unit and transferring charge from the touch sensing pad of the touch sensing unit to the charge accumulation capacitor of the touch sensing unit until a threshold has been met, and detect a touch gesture based upon the touch sensing samples.
