  • Publication number: 20210331731
Abstract: A hygienic grip for a cart handle, such as a shopping cart, utilizes a flexible element dimensioned and configured so that when it is deformed by moving it into contact with a cart handle it will move into place to grip the cart handle. The grip also includes a remote mounting structure, desirably a plastic pistol grip handle which is securely mounted to the flexible element for holding the flexible element in place during use and facilitating movement of the flexible element on and off a cart handle without the possibility of the user inadvertently touching the cart handle. The flexible element desirably is a rubber-like element having a generally U-shaped portion.

  • Patent number: 8038490
Abstract: A watercraft, typically a catamaran, has at least two spaced hulls; at least one seat mounted on or between the hulls; a vertical axis wind turbine (“VAWT”, e.g. Savonius) having a rotatable shaft operatively mounted to the hulls aft of the seat; and at least one propeller operatively connected to the wind turbine. A pedal driven propeller manual assist operable by someone sitting in a seat is also desirably provided. A mounting structure for the VAWT shaft includes an aluminum sleeve receiving the shaft; and at least two aluminum struts extending from each of at least four mounting points on the hulls to the sleeve, the struts operatively connected to the sleeve, one strut from each point vertically above the other. At least two counter-rotating VAWTs, with counter-rotating propellers, are preferred. Typically there are first and second airfoil configuration rudders, one operatively connected to the stern of each hull and controlled by a tiller and linkages to move substantially in tandem.

  • Patent number: 7762777
Abstract: A Savonius vertical axis wind turbine rotor has at least three spokes, at least two vanes, and fasteners. Each spoke includes a hub with central opening and arcuate ribs integral with the hub and extending radially outwardly. Channels are defined in at least one surface of each rib. Vanes of sheet material generally conform to an inner or outer surface of the ribs and have openings aligned with the channels. First fasteners pass through the openings into the channels and cooperate with second fasteners provided within the channels. Each hub may define a clamp which cooperates with a shaft, the clamp including a radial slot in the hub communicating with the central opening and fastener receiving elements on opposite sides of the slot. The vanes may overlap the central opening so that there is spillover from one vane to the next when the rotor is rotated by the wind.

  • Publication number: 20090278480
Abstract: A light fixture is provided which is in the form of a simulated aircraft, preferably simulating as accurately as practical a particular known, existing, actual aircraft, such as a military jet, commercial jet, commercial propeller plane, military or civilian helicopter, glider, ultralight, hang glider, or drone. The simulated aircraft has at least one primary light source (e. g. a white LED) which performs a volume lighting function, and at least one secondary light source which performs an aesthetic, educational, and/or nightlight function (e. g. a red LED simulating a jet afterburner). The simulated aircraft may be mounted on a support shaft which extends to a base, which in turn mounts various electrical components, and may have associated indicia which simulates a cockpit control panel. The cockpit-simulating indicia may be backlit to provide an aesthetic function, for providing an educational function, and/or for providing a nightlight function, or a digital photo frame could be provided.

  • Publication number: 20090107042
Abstract: An at least partially open top container desirably functions as a planter and provides for effective yet aesthetic mounting of a number of like containers in a vertical array. The planter includes a hollow body having at least partially closed sides and bottom, including a back side. First surface manifestations, such as a pair of recessed keyhole-shaped openings, are associated with the back side to facilitate mounting to a wall. Second surface manifestations, such as a pair of recessed projections, are also associated with the back side to facilitate mounting to keyhole openings in another similar planter in a vertical array, interlocking the planters together. The planter may contain potting material and real or artificial plants, and a number of interlocked planters are typically provided in combination in a vertical array.

  • Patent number: 7350414
Abstract: An analog pressure indicator assembly, particularly useful as a barometer, accurately indicates pressure or pressure changes using the fewest number of and/or least expensive components possible. The assembly is typically gearless, and includes a pressure sensitive element [e.g. aneroid chamber] having a first portion that moves in a path in response to pressure. A cam has a first curved surface and a second surface, and is mounted for rotation about a first axis, and the curved first surface operatively engages the pressure sensitive element. A force transmitting element, and a shaft mounted for rotation about a second axis spaced from the first axis, and a pointer operatively connected to the shaft, are also provided.
