  • Publication number: 20220414989
Abstract: A virtual mailbox is established for a first user based on a virtual mailbox definition specified by the first user. A message directed to the first user is received from a first device associated with a second user. A location within a real-world environment of the first user corresponding to the virtual mailbox is identified. A marker associated with the virtual mailbox is detected within the real-world environment of the first user. Based on detecting the marker, the second device presents the message overlaid on the real-world environment at the location corresponding to the virtual mailbox.

  • Patent number: 11531406
Abstract: A personalized emoji dictionary, such as for use with emoji-first messaging. Text messaging is automatically converted to emojis by an emoji-first application so that only emojis are communicated from one client device to another client device. Each client device has a personalized emoji library of emojis that are mapped to words, which libraries are customizable and unique to the users of the client devices, such that the users can communicate secretly in code. Upon receipt of a string of emojis, a user can select the emoji string to convert to text if desired, for a predetermined period of time.

  • Publication number: 20220394835
Abstract: Timing adjustment for accurate zero-crossing determination includes obtaining time offset(s) representing amounts of time between (i) zero-crossings of an input signal waveform, representative of an input AC waveform, input to a zero-crossing detector circuit and (ii) corresponding transitions of an output signal from an output of the circuit to a microcontroller, and determining times of the zero-crossings of the input AC waveform, which includes determining times of the corresponding transitions as detected by the microcontroller and adjusting the determined times using the time offset(s) to produce the times of the zero-crossings of the input AC waveform. In another aspect, input AC frequency is determined by determining pulse width(s) of pulse(s) of the output signal, and adjusting a half-cycle time corresponding to the pulse width(s) using the time offset(s) to provide a duration of half-cycles of the input AC waveform and inform a frequency of the input AC waveform.

  • Patent number: 11467772
Abstract: A method for improving destage performance to a RAID array is disclosed. In one embodiment, such a method periodically scans a cache for first strides that are ready to be destaged to a RAID array. While scanning the cache, the method identifies second strides that are not currently ready to be destaged to the RAID array, but will likely be ready to be destaged during a subsequent scan of the cache. The method initiates preemptive staging of any missing data of the second strides from the RAID array into the cache in preparation for the subsequent scan. Upon occurrence of the subsequent scan, the method destages, from the cache, the second strides from the cache to the RAID array. A corresponding system and computer program product are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 11423158
Abstract: Dynamic compression with dynamic multi-stage encryption for a data storage system in accordance with the present description includes, in one aspect of the present description, preserves end-to-end encryption between a host and a storage controller while compressing data which was received from the host in encrypted but uncompressed form, using MIPs and other processing resources of the storage controller instead of the host. In one embodiment, the storage controller decrypts encrypted but uncompressed data received from the host to unencrypted data and compresses the unencrypted data to compressed data. The storage controller then encrypts the compressed data to encrypted, compressed data and stores the encrypted, compressed data in a storage device controlled by the storage controller. Other aspects and advantages may be realized, depending upon the particular application.

  • Publication number: 20220232156
Abstract: An imaging system may include an electronic shutter. The electronic shutter may be positioned between an image sensor and a lens module or may be integrated as a package cover for the image sensor. The electronic shutter may selectively attenuate incident light that passes to the image sensor. To increase the dynamic range of the imaging system, the electronic shutter may have a first transparency while a first image is captured by the image sensor and a second, different transparency while a second image is captured by the image sensor. The first and second images are subsequently combined to form a single high dynamic range image. The electronic shutter may be controlled at a global level, at a sub-array level, or at a pixel level.

  • Patent number: 11378552
Abstract: A microscale photoacoustic sensor uses the detection of ultrasound waves generated by a sample in response to incident light absorption to perform photoacoustic spectroscopy, imaging, and microscopy. The microscale photoacoustic sensor, including components to excite a sample and detect ultrasound waves, may be integrated onto a single chip. The microscale photoacoustic sensor may excite a sample using a metasurface collimator. The metasurface collimator includes an array of diffraction grooves to collimate an excitation beam uniformly out of the plane of the sensor to create a wide and homogeneous beam spot. The microscale photoacoustic sensor may detect ultrasound waves using an optical photoacoustic transducer. The optical photoacoustic transducer includes a resonator on a mechanical membrane to detect ultrasound waves with high sensitivity. The microscale photoacoustic sensor may be used in applications such as deep-tissue neural imaging or microfluidic biological screening.

  • Patent number: 11354208
Abstract: A first non-volatile dual in-line memory module (NVDIMM) of a first server and a second NVDIMM of a second server are armed during initial program load in a dual-server based storage system to configure the first NVDIMM and the second NVDIMM to retain data on power loss. Prior to initiating a safe data commit scan to destage modified data from the first server to a secondary storage, a determination is made as to whether the first NVDIMM is armed. In response to determining that the first NVDIMM is not armed, a failover is initiated to the second server.
