Patent number: 6430300Abstract: A cooling mechanism is provided for an audio speaker, which mechanism includes a plate of a thermally conductive material mounted between the driver mechanism of the speaker and the speaker basket and extending from the voice coil gap to the outside of the speaker. The spacing between this plate and the voice coil is preferably kept as small as possible. The plate is preferably a vent plate having a plurality of radial vents extending along the width of the plate from the voice coil gap side thereof to the side facing the outside of the speaker. Such a vent plate, in addition to providing radiant cooling, also provides cooling via air flow as well as conduction and convection cooling. The vents are sized and shaped so as to minimize any turbulence, and thus any audible air noise.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 1999Date of Patent: August 6, 2002Assignee: Boston Acoustics, Inc.Inventors: Brian Cox, Aaron Linn, Leif Blackmon

Patent number: 6130680Abstract: A computer graphics system for caching textures includes an L3 memory, an L2 cache, and an L1 cache for storing such textures and also includes a graphics accelerator (GA) for mapping these stored textures onto primitives for graphics display. The L3 memory, which has the largest capacity also has the slowest retrieval speed, while the L1 cache has the smallest capacity and the quickest retrieval speed. The textures are divided into a plurality of L2 texture blocks and each L2 texture block is subdivided into a plurality of L1 sub-blocks. During its rendering process, the GA searches the L1 cache for a particular L1 sub-block that is to be applied to a primitive. If such L1 sub-block is stored within the L1 cache, the GA will extract the desired texels (i.e., texture pixels) from the L1 sub-block and apply such texels to the primitive. If the L1 sub-block is not located in the L1 cache, the GA will search the L2 cache for the L1 sub-block.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 1997Date of Patent: October 10, 2000Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: Michael Brian Cox, Michael J. Patent number: 5732333Abstract: A linear transmitter (101) using predistortion includes a modulator (103), a predistorter (107), a digital quadrature modulator (111), an upconverter (113), a power amplifier (115), and an antenna (117). In addition, the transmitter (101) has a feedback loop including a coupler (119), a downconverter (123), a digital quadrature demodulator (125), and a trainer (131). The digital data to be transmitted is provided into the modulator (103), which converts the digital data into in-phase and quadrature component signals. The in-phase and quadrature component signals are then provided to the predistorter (107), which "predistorts" the component signals prior to amplification. The digital quadrature modulator (111) converts the component signals into a single analog signal. The upconverter (113) upconverts this signal from the predistorter (107) into the desired frequency of transmission, which is provided to the power amplifier (115) and the antenna (117) for amplification and broadcast.Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 1996Date of Patent: March 24, 1998Assignee: Glenayre Electronics, Inc.Inventors: Charles Brian Cox, David Kent Bonds, Jay Jui-Chieh Chen, Flaviu C. Patent number: 4996223Abstract: New echiboline derivatives with opioid properties which are 6-hydroxy-9-methyl-echiboline derivatives having, in the 10-position, a hydrocarbon substituent of up to 4 carbon atoms--preferably a group R.CH.sub.2 -- (wherein R represents a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon group of up to 3 carbons) and especially a methyl, cyclopropyl-methyl or allyl group. These are made by dealkylating corresponding 6-alkoxy-9-methyl-10-substituted echibolines, thereby converting the 6-alkoxy group to a 6-hydroxy group, especially using boron tribromide as dealkylating reagent.Specific examples are 6-hydroxy-9,10-dimethyl-echiboline, 6-hydroxy-9-methyl-10-allyl-echiboline and 6-hydroxy-9-methyl-10-cyclopropylmethyl-echiboline.The compounds may be in free base or salt form, and be incorporated as active ingredient into pharmaceutical compositions.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 1989Date of Patent: February 26, 1991Assignee: The Victoria University of ManchesterInventors: John M.
