  • Patent number: 9342882
Abstract: A method for determining a concentration of a contrast agent in imaging data includes calculating a pre-contrast attenuation map of a region of interest of a patient. Following an administering of a contrast agent to the patient, a post-contrast attenuation map of the region of interest of the patient is calculated. An increase in attenuation value is determined based on the pre-contrast attenuation map and the post-contrast attenuation map and a contrast agent concentration map is calculated for the region of interest based on the increase in attenuation value.

  • Publication number: 20160084929
Abstract: In a method to correct noise effects in magnetic resonance (MR) images, which is executed in a processor (computer), the processor executes a fitting algorithm in order to calculate initial values for each of selected variables in signal model that models noise effects in a modeled, noise-containing MR image. The processor then iteratively executes the same or a different fitting algorithm, in order to generate final values for each of the selected variables. The processor is provided with an actual, acquired MR image that contains noise, and the processor uses the final values of the selected variables to calculate synthetic signal intensities in the MR image, thereby producing a synthetic MR image with no noise bias effects of errors. This synthetic image is made available in electronic form at an output of the processor, as a data file.

  • Patent number: 9272784
Abstract: An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) comprising a plurality of propeller drives rigidly mounted to a foldable frame with the motor rotors aligned in a vertical direction to provide a means of vertical takeoffs and landings. The foldable frame mounts a sheet sail at an angle with the horizontal that provides lift during the forward motion and tilt of the UAV. In one embodiment the shape of the sheet sail and frame are triangular with one or two propeller drives being mounted in close proximity to each of the three vertices. In another embodiment, the shape of the sheet sail and frame are triangular with one or two propeller drives being mounted in close proximity to each of the three vertices, and one or two propeller drives being mount in close proximity to the trailing edge of the spine, in between the trailing edge propeller drives. In some embodiments, the frame spars may be comprised of carbon fiber rods and the sheet sail may be comprised of ripstop nylon fabric.

  • Publication number: 20160019674
Abstract: A computer-implemented method and apparatus for modifying an entity sensory representation. An entity sensory representation representing an entity is received. The entity sensory representation comprises a plurality of sensory representations that represent a plurality of items that are part of the entity. Each of the plurality of items is associated with a set of values for a set of measurable factors of interest. A set of scale factors is calculated for each of the plurality of sensory representations based on the set of values associated with the each of the plurality of items. The plurality of sensory representations is modified using the set of scale factors to form a plurality of modified sensory representations that establish a relative relationship between the plurality of items represented by the plurality of modified sensory representations with respect to the set of measurable factors of interest.

  • Patent number: 9157975
Abstract: A computer-implemented method for concurrently estimating the amount of fat and iron in anatomical tissue from magnetic resonance (MR) signal data includes receiving a test signal representative of the anatomical tissue acquired using a MR pulse sequence type. A repository of reference signal data is generated. The repository comprises a plurality of reference signals derived by an MR signal simulation for a plurality of different transverse relaxation rates, a plurality of different fat fractions, and the MR pulse sequence type. A first reference signal is identified in the plurality of reference signals. The first reference signal provides a best match to the test signal based on one or more matching criteria. The repository is searched to determine a first transverse relaxation rate and a first fat fraction associated with the first reference signal. Then, the amount of fat and iron in the anatomical tissue is estimated based on the first transverse relaxation rate and the first fat fraction.

  • Publication number: 20150224213
Abstract: This invention provides treatment compositions as well as systems and methods of determining and administering an effective amount of treatment for a neurological disorder. The treatment composition can contain a labeled interfering RNA (iRNA) agent capable of decreasing expression of a target RNA associated with the neurological disorder. The methods of the invention include determining an effective amount of a therapeutic composition by introducing a solution containing a tracer into the brain of a mammal. The tracing solution is monitored until a target volume of distribution at steady state distribution is substantially achieved, and the rate of delivery of the therapeutic composition is determined. The therapeutic composition can then be administered at the rate determined by use of the tracing solution.

  • Patent number: 9044047
Abstract: A system to fluidize and convey finely divided particulate matter comprises a container with a top and bottom portion separated by a pan with apertures there through and a hatch to receive a volume of particulate matter into the container to be supported on the pan. The pan is funnel-shaped and has a discharge port at the lowermost portion of the pan. A bridging conveyor tube receives fluidized flow of the particulate matter from the discharge port and conveys the matter to a riser conveyor tube, which elevates the fluidized flow to a receiving bin remove from the container. The bridging conveyor tube and the riser conveyor tube receive gas streams provided through apertures from a bridging gas passage and a riser gas passage, respectively, to sustain fluidized flow from the discharge port of the pan to the receiving bin to minimize the air required to convey the matter.

  • Publication number: 20150084989
Abstract: The different illustrative embodiments provide a method for augmenting reality that may be applied to repairs performed on a composite structure. An image may be recorded of a first layer of a composite component. The image may relate to a first repair performed at a first time. Physical data may be captured for the composite component from a surface layer of the composite component using a number of portable devices. A multi-dimensional representation of a combined augmented reality of the composite component including a display of various layers of the composite component selected by a user may be generated. A user selection may include a time restriction and a spatial restriction. The number of portable devices may display the multi-dimensional representation comprising physical data for an image of the surface of the composite component and digital data for an overlay of composite layers beyond the surface.

  • Patent number: 8726704
Abstract: A shelf device comprises an enclosed frame that includes a plurality of members, a concealed compartment within the frame, and a locking system that includes a locking mechanism comprising a slide bolt and magnetic lift positioned perpendicularly within the slide bolt, a ledge that is engaged with the slide bolt when the locking system is locked, and a magnet. The magnetic lift moves in one direction to cause the slide bolt to move perpendicularly to the magnetic lift's direction as the slide bolt disengages or engages with the ledge to unlock or lock the shelf, respectively. In one embodiment, a rare earth magnet is aligned with the magnetic lift to pull the magnetic lift vertically upward causing the slide bolt to move horizontally backward to disengage the slide bolt from the ledge. Consequently, the shelf is opened as one or more frame members are released to expose the concealed compartment.
