Publication number: 20130306658Abstract: A can end having a countersink bead, an inclined chuck wall and a strong seam, resists distortion from its circular profile when subjected to thermal processing or when packaging carbonated beverages. This high hoop strength affects the manner in which the can end ultimately fails when placed under extreme abuse conditions, even if buckle pressure performance is within industry specified standards. The can end of the invention has control features introduced which control the failure mode whilst maintaining specified buckle pressure performance. In one embodiment, the can end has a two part wall and a control feature that comprises expansion of the countersink bead to act as a trigger for local peaking, together with a groove in the chuck wall which prevents the peaking force from being concentrated at a single point which could result in leaking by the production of a pin hole.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 29, 2013Publication date: November 21, 2013Applicant: Crown Packaging Technology, Inc.Inventors: Martin J. Watson, Brian Fields, Andrew Robert Lockley

Publication number: 20130275549Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to validation of a request for an asset based on information in the request. Validation of the request can be processed by a network node in a network repository that contains the asset. In one aspect, validation of the request can comprise determining if the request is legitimate based at least on processing at least a portion of the information in the request. In response to a legitimate request, the network node can process the request and, as a result, a data object associated with the asset can be supplied to a device originating the request. In the alternative, the network node can yield an exception.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 17, 2012Publication date: October 17, 2013Applicant: COMCAST CABLE COMMUNICATIONS, LLCInventors: Brian Field, Jan van Doom

Publication number: 20130173817Abstract: Some aspects of the disclosure relate to transmitting content over a network. For example, a device may determine that it is missing a content fragment from its cache, and may send a request for the content fragment. A network device may be configured to respond to such requests by transmitting the content fragment. In some instances, this may allow receiving devices to acquire the missing content fragment without the need to transmit a request for content.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 29, 2011Publication date: July 4, 2013Applicant: COMCAST CABLE COMMUNICATIONS, LLCInventors: Brian Field, Jan Van Doorn, Jim Hall, Daniel Groustra, Mark Torluemke, John Leddy

Publication number: 20130138795Abstract: Transaction activity of a cache maintaining content may be monitored to determine periods of transaction activity below a first threshold amount of transactions. A period of anticipated transaction activity above a second threshold amount of transactions may be determined. A period of anticipated transaction activity below the first threshold may be selected based upon the monitored periods of transaction activity below the first threshold and the determined period of anticipated transaction activity above the second threshold. Content then may be evicted from the cache during the selected period of anticipated transaction activity.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 28, 2011Publication date: May 30, 2013Applicant: COMCAST CABLE COMMUNICATIONS, LLCInventors: Brian Field, Jan Van Doorn

Publication number: 20130046848Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to multicasting content throughout a distribution network. For example, a content server may generate content fragment packets and attribute packets, and transmit the content fragment packets and attribute packets via a multicast transmission to deliver content to one or more user devices. The multicast transmission may conform to a particular protocol suitable for multicasting content fragments.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 18, 2011Publication date: February 21, 2013Applicant: COMCAST CABLE COMMUNICATIONS, LLCInventors: Brian Field, Jan Reinier Van Doorn, Mark Torluemke, Jim Hall, Daniel Groustra, John Leddy

Publication number: 20130041972Abstract: An announcement protocol may allow disparate, and previously incompatible, content delivery network caches to exchange information and cache content for one another. Announcement data may be stored by the respective caches, and used to determine whether a cache is able to service an incoming request. URL prefixes may be included in the announcements to identify the content, and longest-match lookups may be used to help determine a secondary option when a first cache determines that it lacks a requested content.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 8, 2012Publication date: February 14, 2013Applicant: COMCAST CABLE COMMUNICATIONS, LLCInventors: Brian Field, Jan Van Doorn, Jim Hall

Publication number: 20130018632Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to monitoring and using telemetry information in various ways. For example, a system that monitors telemetry information may include a user that gathers telemetry information of a device and transmits the information to a monitored room. A manager may join a monitored room and monitor the monitored room for particular types of telemetry information. In one example, a manager may determine whether a downstream device is experiencing a network problem, such as a low bitrate. A manager may also transmit commands to the player via the monitored room, which causes the downstream device to operate in accordance with the transmitted command. In one example, a manager may transmit a command that causes a player to decode a particular service.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 13, 2011Publication date: January 17, 2013Applicant: COMCAST CABLE COMMUNICATIONS, LLCInventors: Brian Field, Jan Van Doorn, Joseph Kiok, Daniel Groustra, Mark Torluemke, Jim Hall, John Leddy

Publication number: 20120315111Abstract: A seaming assembly configured to seam a can end onto a can body to form a seamed container is disclosed. The seaming assembly includes a lifter assembly, a seaming chuck, and a knockout pad. The lifter assembly may be configured to lift a can body, and may include a spring. The seaming chuck may include a surface that is configured to contact a portion of the can end during seaming. The knockout pad may be movable relative to the seaming chuck, and may be configured to locate the can end prior to seaming. The spring may be preloaded to provide a force between 30 lbf and 90 lbf to the can body when the lifter assembly has lifted the can body and the can end has contacted the seaming chuck. The force provided to the can body may increase to between 90 lbf and 150 lbf after the spring has been compressed.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 10, 2011Publication date: December 13, 2012Inventors: Carlos Andrés Mejia-Quinchia, Brian Fields

Publication number: 20120304205Abstract: A monitoring and analysis system is disclosed that gathers and analyzes information about distributed enhanced content delivery to end user or other equipment. The system may establish communications connections along the content delivery system, filter content received from different locations of the system, and compare the received content with an expected content characteristic. Also, a radio frequency signal from the distribution network may be converted into an Internet Protocol (IP) format by a converter so that the transformed signal may be similarly analyzed as other signals from the system. A report may be consequently generated that is indicative of the received enhanced content and any detected discrepancies with respect to expected enhancement events. Identification of the enhanced content may be based on the program association table and the program map table in order to determine the packet ID of the application signals.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 24, 2011Publication date: November 29, 2012Applicant: Comcast Cable Communications, LLCInventors: Jan Van DOORN, Brian Field, Daniel P. Publication number: 20120269934Abstract: The present invention concerns a full aperture beverage end (14) having a centre panel (30), a countersink (22) surrounding the centre panel (30), a main score (50) arranged in proximity to the countersink (22) to define a removeable aperture panel (54) and a vent score (46). The beverage end (14) is adapted for use with products that are pressurised to over 30 psi (207 kPa) when opened, and during opening the vent score (46) is adapted to sever first, controlling the pressure differential between the external surface and internal surface of the centre panel (30), thereby allowing the main score (50) to tear in a controlled and reliable manner.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 2, 2010Publication date: October 25, 2012Applicant: Crown Packaging Technology, Inc.Inventors: Christopher Paul Ramsey, Garry Richard Chant, Andrew Robert Lockley, Brian Fields, Martin John Watson, Eleanor Rachel, Ann Hyde
