Patent number: 8035507Abstract: Stimulating power line carrier injection with reactive oscillation comprises exciting a tank circuit to oscillate at the carrier frequency by sinking pulses of current between one node of a capacitor in the tank circuit and the other node of the capacitor. A power transformer is connected to a distribution system to inject a power line carrier onto the power line. An excitation circuit sinks short pulses of current between one node of a capacitor and the other node of the capacitor that is connected in a tank circuit arrangement with an inductor and the secondary winding of the power transformer. The tank circuit oscillates at the frequency of the excitation pulses if the resonant frequency of the tank circuit is close to the frequency of excitation. The oscillating current is coupled onto the power line system through the power transformer. The phase of the power line carrier signal is shifted by shifting the phase of the excitation pulses.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 2008Date of Patent: October 11, 2011Assignee: Cooper Technologies CompanyInventors: Chad Nicholas Swenson, Jesse Jon Walter, Kevin Charles Allmaras, Brian Frederick Boeshans

Publication number: 20060178844Abstract: A spectroscopy instrument that uses spectra produced from random binary sequence modulated data. Statistical estimation techniques are used to achieve resolution enhancement, while properly accounting for the Poisson noise distribution and other artifacts introduced by a modulator or “chopper” or other system components. Indeed, a resolution similar to that of modem spectrometers can be achieved with a dramatic performance advantage over conventional, serial detection analyzers. Both static and dynamic behaviors are theoretically or measured experimentally accounted for in the model as determined. In one embodiment, the finite penetration of the field beyond the plane of the chopper leads to non-ideal chopper response, which is characterized in terms of an “energy corruption” effect and a lead or lag in the time at which the beam responds to the chopper potential.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 22, 2006Publication date: August 10, 2006Inventors: Lawrence LeGore, Robert Jackson, Zhong Yang, Linda DeNoyer, Peter Kleban, Brian Frederick
