  • Publication number: 20150012253
Abstract: Designing a drillstring in for use in a wellbore, such as a deviated or horizontal wellbore, particularly with application to extended reach wellbores. Method comprises determining the downhole weight-on-bit transmitted by a drillstring by determining a baseline tension profile and baseline torque profile in a drill string rotating off-bottom, and then using such profiles in conjunction with a selected surface weight-on-bit slack-off value to calculate a drillstring tension profile and rotating torque profile with the bit on bottom and having weight applied thereto. The method includes buckling limit checks and rig operational limit checks to determine if sufficient torque and DWOB can be transmitted through the drillstring, and to determine whether the drill string remains operable even though portions thereof may be in a buckled condition.

  • Publication number: 20130068313
Abstract: A flow valve with an integral pressure-independent fluid flow controller for controlling the flow of fluid and corresponding methods for controlling fluid flow are provided. The flow valve comprises a valve body, one or more valve blades arranged on the valve body for controlling fluid flow in a duct section, an actuator for modulating the one or more valve blades, a flow sensor or sensors for sensing fluid flow, a tuning calculation module adapted for determining or monitoring a pressure drop across the valve body and for calculating tuning constants based on the pressure drop, and a controller for controlling the actuator based on a difference between a fluid flow setpoint and the sensed fluid flow in accordance with the tuning constants. The pressure drop may be determined from an algorithm based on blade position and sensed fluid flow, or may be directly measured.

  • Patent number: 7325156
Abstract: In one embodiment, and under control of resources belonging to a controller domain of a data center, a farm server for which a backup operation is to be performed is identified. Interfaces of backup services belonging to the controller domain are then virtually associated with the first farm network. Thereafter, the farm server and backup services are registered in a backup domain of the data center, the backup domain being associated with backup storage. Via the backup services that have been associated with the first farm network, and during execution of the backup operation by the farm server, movement of backup data from the first farm network to the backup storage is facilitated by the method. After completing the backup operation, the farm server and backup services are un-registered from the backup domain, and the interfaces of the backup services are de-associated from the first farm network.

  • Patent number: 6546403
Abstract: An apparatus, method and program product for resubmitting queries encompassed by a Query Management Subsystem (QMS) responsive to high availability recovery actions within itself and a database subsystem it is designed to serve. The invention includes a work queue, a database subsystem, and a first QMS server which invokes and tracks queries in the work queue (received through traditional client interface means) as delivered to the database subsystem. A Query Resubmittal Mechanism (QRM) in the QMS is responsive to the database, client, and high availability recovery actions for both the QMS and database subsystem. The QRM modifies the status of queries in the work queue depending on whether a query has been submitted to the database or a database query response has been received. Incoming client queries are placed in the work queue (with queued status Q). Completed queries from the database are removed from the work queue and answer sets returned to the originating client.
