Abstract: When a user receives potential junk e-mail from an unknown sender address, an active filter installed in or cooperating with the user's e-mail system sends a challenge e-mail back to the sender address. Unless the user receives a correct response e-mail from the sender address and/or a response that meets formal criteria, the active filter rejects the original e-mail and blocks future e-mail from that sender address. The challenge preferably includes a question that the sender must correctly answer in his response. The question is such that only humans can interpret and respond to it correctly. For example, the question may relate to and/or be incorporated in an image in the challenge. Lists of approved and blocked sender addresses are compiled. The user may directly enter addresses in the address lists. Addresses to which the user has sent e-mail may also be included directly in the approved list.

Abstract: A system measures viewership of multimedia programs such as television programs, pay-per-view sporting events, and video-on-demand movies. Viewership data from a plurality of multimedia programs may be compared to determine ratings for the multimedia programs. Multimedia streams en route to set top boxes may be monitored using packet inspection to identify the multimedia program or programs included in the multimedia streams. An electronic table or array may be stored and updated with viewership statistics of monitored multimedia programs. Some embodiments track the total number of households or televisions that are powered on in a viewing area. Ratings are available substantially in real time by accessing a stored table with viewership information or by frequently polling a plurality of stored values to determine which multimedia program is being viewed by all or substantially all viewers in an area.

Abstract: A submerged hydrocarbon recovery apparatus for the collection and conveyance of fluids from sub surface leaks to the water body surface. The apparatus comprises a hydrocarbon fluid collector having an opening for receiving and collecting fluids emanating from an underwater hydrocarbon leak; a floatation assembly located below the water surface at a depth not affected by surface disturbances; and a conduit extending between the fluid collector and floatation assembly. The apparatus includes components to prevent the formation of hydrates or accumulation of solids that would obstruct the conveyance of fluids.

One apparatus includes a data store storing at least a first record associated with a first wireless device or a second record associated with a second wireless device. A computer is coupled to the data store and is configured to receive a request from the first wireless device to obtain location information associated with the second wireless device. The computer is configured to receive a change location privileges request, and to update the first or second records in the data store based on the received change request. Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method of inhibiting CD1d activation by administering a composition containing a moiety that blocks CD1d activation. Compositions of the invention are useful for the attenuation of CD1d-restricted immune responses, including treatment of skin disorders due to hyperactive immune responses (e.g., contact hypersensitivity), for systemic administration to attenuate ongoing immune responses, and to provide hypoallergenic cosmetic products including pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and skin care compositions. Preferably, these compositions are in a form intended for topical administration.

Restoration paths can also be determined. Optimizing can include selecting and marking one or more backup wavelengths.
