  • Publication number: 20150190123
Abstract: A biopsy needle has a central axis and includes one or more sensing regions, each sensing region formed by a plurality of sensing optical fibers located over a particular extent of said central axis and inside the outer shell of the needle. The sensing optical fibers are coupled to a wavelength interrogator. A steerable catheter has a central axis and outer shell, the outer shell coupled to a plurality of optical fibers in sensing regions and actuation regions, the sensing regions formed over particular extents of the central axis by bonding gratings to the inner surface of the outer shell, and the actuation regions formed by coupling optical energy into shape memory alloys bonded to the outer shell.

  • Patent number: 9041613
Abstract: A broadband antenna can include a parabolic dish having a diameter D and a radius of curvature that establishes a focal point for the parabolic dish. A tapered slot feed having a feed point can be positioned above the parabolic dish so that its effective radiation point is spaced a distance F from the center of the dish, where F is the focal length of the dish. With this configuration, feed point for the tapered slot feed can be coincident with parabolic dish focal point. The tapered slot feed can include two elements that form an exponentially tapered slot, which establishes a phase center for the tapered slot feed. A conductive bar can interconnect the two elements, in order to minimize the phase center variation during broadband operation.

  • Patent number: 7404544
Abstract: A torque limiting clutch includes a drive shaft having central rotational axis, a disk-shaped spring member secured to the drive shaft for rotation therewith, and a plate adjacent the spring member and having a plurality of grooves receiving bosses of the spring member. The spring member has a plurality bosses formed at an outer edge of the spring member that each form a generally V-shaped engagement surface. The grooves each form a generally V-shaped engagement surface engaging the bosses. A retaining clip retains the plate relative to the spring member to obtain a predetermined spring pretension. Engagement of the bosses with the grooves causes rotation of the plate upon rotation of the drive shaft when below a predetermined torque limit and deflection of the bosses out of the grooves prevents rotation of the plate upon rotation of the drive shaft when above the predetermine torque.

  • Patent number: 7086664
Abstract: A jack handle includes a handle arm having first and second ends, a jack driver having a coupling shaft, and a spring clip detachably securing the jack driver to the handle arm. The first end of the handle arm forms a socket receiving the coupling shaft. The spring clip has a protrusion resiliently deflectable between a locking position interlocking with the coupling shaft to secure the jack driver to the handle arm and a releasing position free of the coupling shaft such that the jack driver is released from the handle arm. Preferably, the spring clip encircles the periphery of the handle arm at the socket, the handle arm has an opening at the socket, and the protrusion of the clip extends through the opening and into the groove to interlock the jack driver with the handle arm.
