  • Patent number: 7927549
Abstract: A method for accessing the contents of a closed collection device having a cap and a fluid-holding vessel in fixed association. The method includes penetrating one or more materials of the cap with an air displacement pipette, thereby forming one or more passageways for venting air displaced from within the collection device, where the pipette includes structure for forming the one or more passageways. A fluid present in the vessel is drawn into the pipette before the pipette is removed from the collection device.

  • Patent number: 7795036
Abstract: A method for obtaining the contents of a fluid-holding vessel having a cap secured to an open end thereof. The method includes penetrating a surface of the cap with a fluid transfer device and forming one or more air passageways between the penetrated surface of the cap and the fluid transfer device to allow air to be vented from the vessel. At least a portion of the contents of the vessel is then drawn into the fluid transfer device before the fluid transfer device is removed from the vessel.

  • Publication number: 20090301230
Abstract: A method for removing a fluid substance from a sealed collection device comprising a cap and a fluid-holding vessel, where the method aids in venting air from the collection device when the cap is penetrated by a fluid transfer device used to withdraw a fluid substance from the vessel. Venting is aided by incorporating a pause step between penetrating the cap and contacting the fluid substance held by the vessel with the fluid transfer device or by contacting the cap at a slower speed than the fluid transfer device enters the collection device after the cap has been penetrated.

  • Publication number: 20090237203
Abstract: A system for controlling access at secure facilities to locations and assets contained in those locations, comprising a biometric identification device, an RFID tag and receiver, and a database for processing information from them to allow or deny access to the locations and assets. The system ties into an existing network in the facility and also includes a programming device for evaluation of the biometric template and acknowledgement of the identification, if made. The system also controls the permissible locations of assets such as laptops, desktop computers, photographic equipment, weapons such as rifles, data storage devices and the like, such that while a person may have access to a location, use of an asset or removal of the asset may not be part of that person's authorized conduct.

  • Publication number: 20090191415
Abstract: A connection made between components at a safe temperature for each of the components. A slot made may be provided on one component and a tab provided on the other component. The slot may be filled with an electrically conductive material. The tab may be inserted in the slot before significant curing of the material and kept in the slot throughout the curing period of the material. The curing may be effected at a temperature harmless to the components. For example, the temperature may be room temperature. One example of a temperature-sensitive component may be a thin battery.

  • Publication number: 20090080696
Abstract: A “be on the look out” or BOLO device is an unsupervised device that can be deployed at a particular location to watch for a specific target or person. A camera produces scene images that the BOLO device analyzes to determine if they contain a pattern matching a target descriptor. If a matching pattern is found, then the BOLO device emits an alarm signal. The alarm signal can contain the BOLO device's location or identification. A location database can produce the device's location when given the device's identification. A target transmitter can supply new target descriptors to deployed BOLO devices.

  • Publication number: 20080170758
Abstract: A method and system for selecting and allocating high confidence biometric data. A combination of presented identification information along with gathered biometric data are associated with an entity separated by a sensor trigger. For example, presenting a driver's license in addition to automated gathering and identification of face, iris, voice, or any other combination of biometrics can be implemented in the context of gathering and selecting biometric data. Such a method and system solves the problem of harvesting sensor data from disparate sources together to form a more strongly identified individual user profile with appropriate related identifying information.
