  • Patent number: 4503950
Abstract: In a brake booster (10) for an aircraft having an adjuster mechanism (24) with a tubular member (54) that engages a head (62) of a stem (40) to hold an actuator (20) in a fixed rest position after each brake application. The tubular member (54) has a plurality of openings (58, 58' . . . 58.sup.N) located at various intervals along its axis. The head (62) engages the tubular member to sequentially expand the material between the openings (58, 58' . . . 58.sup.N) on movement of the actuator (20) toward the friction disc in a brake. After the head (62) has passed an opening (58, 58' . . . 58.sup.N), the modulus of elasticity of the material is such that the material contracts to a neck down diameter that is substantially equal to the initial diameter of the tubular member (54) to constrain the tubular member (44) with respect to stem (40). Thereafter, any force which attempts to move actuator (20) from the rest position must be substantially equal to the actuation force.

  • Patent number: 4249642
Abstract: A series of cap members for covering the drive splines of a plurality of carbon friction discs in a wheel and brake assembly to protect the carbon from oxidization. Each of the cap members have first and second tabs that project into the root sections on the carbon disc between the drive splines. The first tabs on the series of cap members are connected to adjacent second tabs to form a continuous ring member which protects the carbon friction disc from degradation caused by oxidation. During a brake application, the carbon friction disc adjacent the cap member engage a portion of the cap member. Thereafter, the cap member and/or the adjacent carbon friction disc are worn away to maintain the oxidation protection after repeated brake applications.

  • Patent number: 4206716
Abstract: A roller assembly adapted for securement to a cable on a sailboat, adjacent a spreader bar, to eliminate chafing or wear of a sail. A pair of identical halves comprise a free spinning roller mounted upon an axle which clamps on the cable and locates the assembly thereon. The axle is also comprised of a pair of mating halves. Mating fastener elements are provided to interlock the roller halves together about the rotary bearing surface of the axle when the clamping axle is secured to the cable.

  • Patent number: 4106317
Abstract: A lock having a low co-efficient of thermal conductivity for use with appliances having a large thermal differential between their interior and exterior. The lock includes a self-mounting body having an axial bore therethrough, a rotatable latch carrying a plug located in said bore and a constantly axially spring-urged key ejector means which carries locking means cooperating with complementary means in said body.

  • Patent number: 4071696
Abstract: An electrical jack for telephones or the like is disclosed. The jack includes a box-like cover in which a number of bi-ended wires are mounted. Each wire terminates at one end in a spring contact adapted and located for engagement with a screw connector carried on a terminal block. At its other end, each wire terminates in a resilient folded spring contact. A clip member receives and mounts these folded spring contacts in a fixed, electrically spaced apart relationship. The clip is carried in the cover in such a location as to form part of a socket adapted to receive a multi-wire electrical plug.

  • Patent number: 4053084
Abstract: A closure plug is disclosed which is especially adapted for use in retaining insulation inside the cavities of refrigerators and like appliances. The plug includes a number of petal-like flaps which are conically arrayed and originally point relatively outwardly. When an insulation nozzle is pushed against the petal flaps, the flaps are forced inwardly, and splay apart to permit nozzle insertion through the plug. After the nozzle is withdrawn, the petal flaps return to form an inverted cone pointing relatively inwardly. Beveled petal flap sides provide planar inter-petal contact and structural conical strength to resist the outward flow of insulation. The plug is fastened to a cavity-defining wall by a base having a polygonal cross-sectional shape substantially coextensive with a polygonal wall aperture, and a head of polygonal cross-sectional shape at least congruent with the wall aperture but angularly offset with respect to and depending from the base to engage the wall and retain the plug on the wall.

  • Patent number: 4022504
Abstract: A one-piece plastic latch receptacle mounted in an apertured panel and adapted to accept a shouldered strike. The latch includes a resilient oval tubular portion supported in spaced independently flexible relation to both the head and mounting legs and carries at least one shouldered rib positioned along each major dimension of the oval for engagement of the strike at a plurality of positions.

  • Patent number: 4013147
Abstract: An annular rotor defined by a plurality of arcuate segments arranged in end to end relationship to form a friction disc. The arcuate segments are held in relatively loose annular formation by a retaining ring provided with opposite side plates fixedly secured thereto and between which radially extending projections of the arcuate segments extend. Ths side plates are provided with flange or tang portions which mate with recesses formed in opposite sides of the projections to thereby secure the segments to the ring in relatively loose formation to permit thermal expansion of the segments with minimal distortion thereof. If desired, the segments may each be provided with a recess in the unsecured peripheral edge thereof which recesses in aligned form provide a substantially continuous annular recess adapted to receive a flexible ring which, in turn, maintains alignment of the segments in a common plane.
