  • Patent number: 7252024
Abstract: A method and an apparatus or machining a workpiece include the use of a cryogenically cooled oxide containing ceramic cutting tool. The method involves cryogenic cooling of the cutting tool during a cutting operation, which cooling results in enhanced wear resistance and fracture resistance of the cutting tool. A preferred embodiment involves jetting a cryogenic fluid directly at the cutting tool.

  • Publication number: 20070178888
Abstract: Several related methods and apparatus for re-establishing communication for a wireless communication device after a communication loss between the wireless device and a wireless communication network are disclosed. In one illustrative example, the wireless network broadcasts identifiers of wireless devices associated with communication losses in the wireless network over a control channel. After regaining signal coverage, a wireless device monitors the control channel to decode and compare each broadcasted identifier with an identifier of the wireless device. Based on a match between a broadcasted identifier and the identifier of the wireless device, the wireless device transmits a control message which informs the wireless network of the presence of the wireless device. Otherwise, the wireless device normally refrains from transmitting the control message to the wireless network.

  • Patent number: 7197312
Abstract: Reject code handling is utilized for a more time-efficient selection of data-capable networks. One illustrative method for use in selecting a wireless communication network for communications involves the steps of causing a request for data connectivity to be transmitted through a first wireless network; reattempting the request for data connectivity through the first wireless network one or more times if a reject code comprising a non-critical error is received in response to the request for data connectivity through the first wireless network; and attempting to select a second wireless network for communications without reattempting the request for data connectivity through the first wireless network one or more times if a reject code comprising a critical error is received in response to the request for data connectivity through the first wireless network.

  • Publication number: 20060289279
Abstract: A conveyor system that includes a zoned conveyor surface and a loading sensor. The loading sensor is configured to detect placement of a load into the zone. A loading timer is activated by loading detection by the sensor and while activated, a controller system halts movement of the zone. This stops movement of the zone, facilitating placement of the load in the zone. Also, a sensor blocked signal may be sent to the upstream zone to stop movement of any loads in the upstream zone into the zone while loading. Normal movement in the upstream zone is handled by triggering a travel time for a predetermined period of time, during which the loading timer is overridden so that the upstream load travels normally downstream.

  • Publication number: 20060272929
Abstract: A drive controller for controlling movement of a plurality of packages by an accumulation conveyor. The drive controller is configured to determine a length of each of the packages and to coordinate driving of a number of zones needed to accommodate the package. For example, a sensor in each of the conveyor zones communicates blockage by the packages to the drive controller. The drive controller determines a sequence of blockage of the sensors in adjacent zones. Blockage of the sensor in an upstream zone before the sensor in a downstream zone indicates an oversized package that extends longer than a zone length of the downstream zone and into the upstream zone. The drive controller is configured to drive the downstream zone and upstream zone simultaneously when detecting the oversized package.

  • Patent number: 7089020
Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel apparatus and method for location marking. In an embodiment, an electronic device is operable to identify it's location depending on the combination of base stations it receives signals from. Different geographic regions are defined and can be identified and renamed by the user based on the unique combination of base station ID's receivable in each geographic location. The embodiment described herein allows user handsets to continuously track location as they move. Applications in the electronic device can then be configured to respond in different manners depending on the location of the electronic device.

  • Publication number: 20050227719
Abstract: Reduced delays in data service offered by data-capable networks are provided. One illustrative method includes the steps of receiving and storing in memory a first timer value which is broadcasted by a wireless communication network for use in the mobile station; causing a request for data connectivity to be transmitted through the wireless network, and reattempting the request up to a plurality of times when data connectivity fails; after the one or more reattempted requests for data connectivity fail, activating a timer based on a second timer value which is less than the first timer value; and repeating the transmitting of requests for data connectivity after expiration of the timer.

  • Publication number: 20050107082
Abstract: Network selection methods and apparatus with home network prioritization in country border regions are disclosed. In one illustrative example, a mobile station (200) is associated with a home communication network (402) having a home mobile country code (MCC). Being outside of the home network country, however, the mobile station (200) selects and operates with a non-home communication network (406) having a visiting MCC. After expiration of a timer, the mobile station (200) scans to identify a plurality of networks in a coverage area within which the mobile station (200) is operating. If the home network (402) having the home MCC is identified as being available, the mobile station (200) selects and operates with the home network (200). Otherwise, if the non-home network (406) having the visiting MCC is identified as being available, the mobile station (200) selects and operates with the non-home network (406).

  • Publication number: 20050107109
Abstract: Network selection methods and apparatus with home network prioritization after network signal recovery and/or power-on are disclosed. In one illustrative example involving automatic network selection, a mobile station (200) selects and operates with a non-home communication network (406). The mobile station (200) then experiences an out-of-coverage condition (or a power down condition) but subsequently regains signal coverage (or is powered back on). In response, the mobile station (200) scans to identify a plurality of communication networks in its coverage area. If a home network (402) is identified as being available, the mobile station (200) selects and operates with the home network (402). Otherwise, if the previous non-home network (406) (e.g. the RPLMN) is identified as being available, the mobile station (200) continues operation with the previous non-home network (406).

  • Patent number: 6814187
Abstract: A system for detecting liquid in an inground lift has a tube with an open end disposed within the internal cavity defined by the containment housing of the inground lift. The tube is in fluid communication with a source of pressurized gas. A pressure sensor generates a signal if the pressure within the air line exceeds a predetermined level, which occurs if the end is blocked by liquid. A control system is configured to respond to the signal.

  • Publication number: 20040149520
Abstract: A modular inground lift is supported by the lift bay floor. The lift includes self contained modules which have their own power units. A telescoping cylinder and locking leg allow the depth of the lift to be shallower than before. The use of VFD to control the motors allows monitoring of the loads, both during raising and lowering. The modular lift includes integral rebar to provide the structural connection with the lift bay floor.
