  • Patent number: 5627999
Abstract: A method of making, including a method of floorplanning, an integrated circuit includes the separation of electrical logic function cells of the integrated circuit into sets or macros of data path cells, each of which evidence a high level of similarity or repetitiveness in the integrated circuit, and into sets of random logic cells, which each are connected to data path cells but which do not meet topological and connectivity criteria for the data path cells. The data path cells are iteratively sorted according to connectivity requirements and are initially placed on a provisional floor plan of the integrated circuit in a cell-space matrix of rows and columns, the rows being of substantially uniform width to accommodate functional modules of the data path cells, and the rows being of variably height to cooperatively define the spaces of the cell-space matrix.

  • Patent number: 5615600
Abstract: This invention relates to a piston with its skirt being cut to locate four sets of bearing pads and circulating roller bearings. Each pad has been milled to have a doughnut shaped groove with half of a roller cross-section to hold the roller bearing in circulation during the piston reciprocating motion. Two lines of roller bearings on each side of a piston pin are in contact with the cylinder liner and share the piston thrust load. Lubrication of the roller bearings is ensured by oil slots through the piston skirt under the oil ring groove to the top of the grooves of the bearing pads and to the exposed roller bearings in rolling contact.

  • Patent number: 5600048
Abstract: There is provided a process for preparing ethylbenzene using liquid phase alkylation and vapor phase transalkylation. The liquid phase alkylation reaction may be catalyzed by an acidic solid oxide, such as MCM-22, MCM-49 and MCM-56. The vapor phase transalkylation may be catalyzed by a medium-pore size zeolite such as ZSM-5. The process may be run continuously with the continuous introduction of fresh benzene feed containing at least 500 ppm of nonbenzene hydrocarbon impurities. The combined ethylbenzene product of these alkylation and transalkylation reactions has very low levels of impurities including xylene, hydrocarbons having 7 or less carbon atoms and hydrocarbons having 9 or more carbon atoms.

  • Patent number: 5599042
Abstract: An inflatable safety air curtain device for vehicles includes an air curtain device mounted in the car in front and above the driver or the passengers and an infrared detecting device. The air curtain device consists of an inflatable air curtain furled on a shaft within a housing or compressed and folded up within the housing. The infrared detecting device is mounted at a farthest front end of the car and may, upon detecting any car or object within a critical range of the car, actuate an electromagnetic valve on the air curtain device to cause compressed air within the cylinder to flow into the air curtain to inflate the same so that the air curtain swells instantly downwardly to form a protective curtain for the driver or the passenger.

  • Patent number: 5584397
Abstract: A compact disk storage and dispensing rack includes a base and, rising from the base in a use position of the rack, a support rod. A plurality of storage receptacles each for accommodating one of a plurality of compact disks is mounted on successive sections of the support rod for pivoting about mutually parallel axes along movement planes that are parallel to one another and inclined to a predetermined extent with respect to the horizontal as considered in the use position of the rack. Each of the storage receptacles is hollow and has a region that is remote from the support rod and is open to permit egress and ingress of the respective compact disk out of and into the respective receptacle. Each of the storage receptacles is movable between its storage position in which the remote region is situated higher and a dispensing position in which it is situated lower than the region surrounding the support rod.

  • Patent number: 5554679
Abstract: A conductive polymer composition exhibiting PTC behavior and the method of making the composition are disclosed. The composition includes a particulate conductive filler and a polymeric portion. The polymeric portion contains a volume-expansion-regulating high molecular weight polymer, such as ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), that resists melting and causes an increase in the volume of the composition, upon heating, but migrates minimally within the composition. The high molecular weight polymer preferably has a linear thermal expansion coefficient of at least 200.times.10.sup.-6 /.degree. C. The polymeric portion also contains a melt-extrudable polyolefin matrix in which the conductive filler and the high molecular weight polymer are dispersed. The high molecular weight polymer is present in an amount which allows the final composition to be melt-extrudable. An electrical device containing a PTC element that utilizes the novel composition and at least two electrodes is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5531497
Abstract: A two-position collapsible canopy assembly (10) is designed to be attached to the side rails (15) of a pickup truck (11). The assembly basically consists of a fore hard shell (12) that attaches to the rear of the truck cab, an aft hard shell (14), and a flexible canopy (16) therebetween that is supported by a plurality of ribs (22). The aft hard shell (14) and the ribs (22) are slidably disposed upon a pair of tracks (64) that are supported on the truck's side rails (15). The assembly (10) may be placed in a fully extended position or in a retracted position. When in the retracted position a security mid-gate (70) and mid-gate liner (72) may be attached below the aft hard shell (14) that provides a secure enclosed area into which items may be stowed. The mid-gate liner (72) affixed to the top of the corrugated truck bed deck (21) within the enclosed area allows the stowed items to remain dry in the event of inclement weather.
