  • Publication number: 20140334530
Abstract: An OFDM communication system performs time domain channel estimation responsive to received symbols before the symbols are processed by a fast Fourier transform. The communication system generates virtual pilots from actual pilots to improve the stability and quality of channel estimation. The system generates a reference signal from the actual and virtual pilots and correlates the resulting reference signal with a signal responsive to the received symbol to generate an initial channel impulse response (CIR) and to determine statistics about the channel. In some circumstances, the resulting reference signal is correlated with a modified symbol in which the actual and virtual pilot locations are emphasized and the data locations are deemphasized. Time domain channel estimation iteratively improves on the initial CIR. The system determines channel estimates for data only symbols through averaging such as interpolation.

  • Publication number: 20140269882
Abstract: An OFDM receiver receives OFDM symbols in the frequency domain and comb filters and then punctures the OFDM symbols to leave symbols with actual pilot information and with null values at the data symbols. The receiver provides the punctured OFDM symbols to an OFDM symbol queue. A virtual pilot interpolator is coupled to the punctured OFDM symbol storage to generate virtual pilot information introduced to OFDM symbols. The interpolator may be a two dimensional Wiener filter. The receiver also includes a time domain channel estimator that processes a first OFDM symbol including virtual pilot information to generate a channel impulse response for the first OFDM symbol. A frequency equalizer equalizes the OFDM symbol in response to the channel impulse response for the first OFDM symbol.

  • Publication number: 20140269883
Abstract: An OFDM receiver generates an initial channel impulse response in response to a received OFDM signal. The receiver determines the time span within the initial channel impulse response in which significant paths are present. An intermediate channel impulse response estimator identifies paths within the initial channel impulse response and generates an improved intermediate channel impulse response. A channel impulse response estimator performs a second non-linear process to generate a channel impulse response. An equalizer responds to the channel impulse response and the OFDM symbol to equalize the OFDM symbol. Metrics are generated that can be used for effectively stopping the second iterative non-linear process.

  • Publication number: 20140257721
Abstract: An off-board vehicle fuel containment tester that utilizes a vacuum/pressure pump to change the pressure in the vehicle's fuel handling and containment system. A microprocessor is programmed to control the vacuum/pressure pump system and through the reading produced by a pressure transducer will determine, by the pressure changes occurring in the containment system, if a leak is present and the size of the leak. Once a leak is determined to be present, a gas analyzer that can detect carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons is used to find the point of leakage in the vehicle containment system.

  • Publication number: 20140159905
Abstract: A network tracking server-based service that implements an efficient network management of location requests associated with tracking a prisoner's wireless tracking device. The tracking server initiates location requests associated with a given prisoner (or the like) tracking device in a trustworthy, but much more efficient and manageable technique, from the perspective of the network. Network management of prisoner device tracking is made efficient when inside a given geofence, but once outside the prescribed geofence a more detailed inquisition is immediately launched—even before the top of the hour (or whenever the typical periodic location request occur). From a management perspective, once detected to no longer be inside (and thus is outside) an expected or assigned geofence, the prisoner tracking device is presumed less trustworthy, and thus then periodic location requests to the tracking device are initiated.

  • Publication number: 20140117945
Abstract: A battery management system calculates expected run time for the information handling system from either an average or instantaneous power consumption and the remaining battery capacity. When power is attached to the battery, the battery management system compares an expected run time with a current usage day profile. If the information handling system is operating in a non-active use period or if system run time can extend sufficiently into the non-use period then a slow charge rate is applied which will charge the batteries up to a substantially charged state (e.g., 80-95% of full capacity) and top off of the battery is deferred such that battery is fully charged somewhat before the average beginning of the next day (e.g., approximately one to two hours before the average beginning of the next day).
