Patent number: 12258948Abstract: An apparatus includes a thermal actuator switch configured to control a transfer of thermal energy through the thermal actuator switch. The thermal actuator switch includes first and second plates and a piston movable laterally between the first and second plates. The thermal actuator switch also includes a phase change material configured to (i) expand to move a surface of the piston into a first position and (ii) contract to allow the surface of the piston to move into a second position. The surface of the piston thermally contacts the first plate and increases thermal energy transfer between the first and second plates when in one of the first and second positions. The surface of the piston is spaced apart from the first plate and decreases thermal energy transfer between the first and second plates when in another of the first and second positions.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 2023Date of Patent: March 25, 2025Assignee: Raytheon CompanyInventors: Andrew J. Publication number: 20250022765Abstract: Systems and methods for top side cooling for a power amplifier module are disclosed. The power amplifier module may be part of a system in a package that may be considered inverted relative to a normal orientation. A power amplifier die (and other elements) may be mounted on a metallization layer. Wire bond connections may communicatively couple the “top” of the power amplifier die to the metallization layer. A plated heat sink (PHS) laminate may be positioned “beneath” the power amplifier die in the metallization layer. The metallization layer may communicatively couple to vias that extend “up” and “above” the power amplifier die to a connection pad. The entire package is then inverted such that the connection pads may couple to a printed circuit board in a downward direction, and the PHS is now facing upward so that it may be coupled to a heat sink.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 5, 2024Publication date: January 16, 2025Inventors: Miles Larkin, MD Hasnine, Neftali Salazar, Charles E. Publication number: 20240035776Abstract: A holster for receiving and withdrawing a handgun has a proximal wall portion with a handgun retention mechanism thereon. The mechanism having a first lever with a tab portion for actuation and release of a trigger guard, the lever having a snap fit into a lever region without a separate pin. A belt engaging member covers the lever region capturing the first lever therein. If a second retention mechanism is used, another lever with a tab portion is positioned so the tabs are stacked, depressing one also depresses the tab behind it, such that both mechanisms are released. Overmolded polymer layers in the holster body provides a softer interior handgun engagement surfaces. The holster body is split forwardly with a threaded fastener for clamping onto the handgun. No holster body is beneath or rearward of the tab portion, configured as a thumb button, allowing smooth transition to gripping the handgun.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 30, 2023Publication date: February 1, 2024Inventors: Paul N. Smith, Troy E. Lance, Oscar C. Woods, Daniel D. Sereday, Christopher J. Michael, Robert J. Meinert

Publication number: 20230343721Abstract: Multichip module thermal management through backside metal systems and methods are disclosed. In one aspect, a multichip module includes one or more flip chip integrated circuits (ICs), each having a backside to which a metal heat conductor or spreader is attached. The presence of the metal heat conductor on the backside of the flip chip ICs allows for a better thermal path to remove heat from the ICs relative to the substrate. The improved thermal path reduces the likelihood of damage to the ICs or delamination of the module. A variety of methods are proposed to construct the backside metal systems. Additionally, a variety of capture features may be used to assist in structural integrity.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 24, 2023Publication date: October 26, 2023Inventors: MD Hasnine, Mark C. Woods, Neftali Salazar, Smreeti Dahariya, Christine Blair

Patent number: 11725774Abstract: An isolation coupler for coupling a functional element to a support structure includes a first bracket. The first bracket includes a number of first-bracket sides. The number of first-bracket sides forms a closed polygonal shape, in plan view. The isolation coupler further includes a number of isolators coupled to each one of the first-bracket sides. The isolation coupler also includes a second bracket. The second bracket includes a number of second-bracket sides. The second bracket sides are coupled to the isolators. The number of second-bracket sides is equal to the number of first-bracket sides and forms the closed polygonal shape, in plan view. The isolators separate each one of the first-bracket sides from a corresponding one of the second-bracket sides to attenuate a load transferred from the first bracket to the second bracket.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 2021Date of Patent: August 15, 2023Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Richard W.
