  • Publication number: 20110028285
Abstract: A selectorized dumbbell has nested stacks of left and right weight plates, a handle that can be disposed between the two stacks of weight plates, and a selector that couples selected numbers of the left and right weight plates to left and right planar ends of the handle. The handle has at least one loop type hand grip located above the ends of the handle and above the weight plates to allow the dumbbell to be used as a kettlebell. This loop type hand grip can be replaced with a bar type hand grip if the dumbbell is to be used like a standard dumbbell, or the handle can be provided in kettlebell or standard versions thereof. Alternatively, the loop type hand grip can be movably disposed on the handle for movement between operative and non-operative positions.

  • Patent number: 7857735
Abstract: A selectorized dumbbell has a handle that can be inserted into a gap between stacks of nested left and right weight plates. A selector determines how many left weight plates are coupled to the left end of the handle and how many right weight plates are coupled to the right end of the handle. Each weight plate is held between a pair of flexible arms on a forked carrier. The arms allow the weight plates to deflect out of a normal, substantially upright, orientation if an impact shock is delivered to the dumbbell. The arms are restored to their normal orientation once the impact shock dissipates. Alternatively, the weight plates may comprise a metallic inner weight plate covered with an elastomer encasement and with an integral elastomer lug attaching the weight plates to at least one interconnecting member. The selector may comprise a connecting pin with at least one flexible shock absorbing prong.

  • Publication number: 20100323855
Abstract: This invention relates to a selectorized dumbbell having a handle that can be dropped down between nested left and right stacks of weight plates. The weight plates can comprise individual weights or a pair of weight plates, one from each stack, can be connected together to form a single weight. A selector is provided to allow the user to select a desired number of weight plates from each stack and couple such weight plates to the handle to provide an adjustable weight dumbbell. Each weight includes a weight frame having at least one carrier to which a commodity weight can be fastened. The dumbbell can be shipped by the manufacturer with empty weight frames to reduce shipping costs. When the dumbbell with empty weight frames reaches a destination, the dumbbell can be completed by securing commodity weights to the carriers on the respective weight frames.

  • Patent number: 7854693

  • Publication number: 20100074686
Abstract: A structure for use in a body of water has at least one level that includes a boat lift, a narrow dock, or a larger entertainment area, or combinations of these items on multi-level structures (e.g. a boat lift on a first level and an entertainment area on a second level). The structure can be towed to or from a body of water independently of other structures. The structure includes a buoyancy system, e.g. at least one ballast tank or inflatable bladder, for allowing the structure to float in a buoyant state or to sink in a non-buoyant state into engagement with a bottom of the body of water. One or more structures such as these can be assembled to form an artificial breakwater by placing a wall or skirt on the windward side(s) thereof with each wall or skirt extending from below to significantly above the waterline. This forms a calmer area of water on the leeward side(s) thereof.

  • Patent number: 7578771
Abstract: A weight selection and adjustment system for a selectorized dumbbell comprises a stand that holds a pair of selectorized dumbbells. The stand has an electric motor that is selectively energized by a controller for substantially simultaneously adjusting the weight of both dumbbells. The controller is responsive to a weight selection made by a user through a data entry device. The system can also be used with a single dumbbell placed on the stand. Alternatively, the electric motor can be mounted on the handle of a selectorized dumbbell to allow weight adjustment operations to be made without placing the selectorized dumbbell on a stand. In this embodiment, the data entry device and controller can also be carried on the handle of each selectorized dumbbell.

  • Patent number: 7549952
Abstract: A selectorized dumbbell has a handle that can be inserted into a gap between stacks of nested left and right weight plates that are provided in a plurality of nested weights. A selector determines how many left weight plates are coupled to the left end of the handle and how many right weight plates are coupled to the right end of the handle. A single left weight plate and a single right weight plate are interconnected together by an interconnection member of some type to form a single weight. The interconnection members of the different weights overlie one another and are provided with two arrays of a plurality of unique sets of holes and slots. A first connecting pin is inserted through the handle and through a selected set of holes and slots in the first array. A second connecting pin is inserted through the handle and through a selected set of holes and slots in the second array. The two pins together symmetrically couple the desired number of weights to the handle in a balanced fashion.

  • Patent number: 7520845
Abstract: A selector of a selectorized dumbbell comprises a keyboard having a plurality of keys that can be depressed into a weight selecting position. In this weight selecting position, a cam actuator on each key forces a pair of connecting pins apart to couple a particular weight to the handle. Preferably, to minimize the risk of accidental weight detachment from the handle, a pair of keys and two pairs of connecting pins couple each weight to the handle in a redundant fashion. The pins in each pair slide apart from one another to couple a weight to the handle and slide towards one another to uncouple a weight from the handle with the sliding motion of the pins being perpendicular to the axis of a hand grip of the handle.

  • Patent number: 7455026
Abstract: A structure can be installed in and removed from a body of water in a seasonal fashion. The structure has a lower level that includes a boat lift and may include an upper level that provides an entertainment area. The structure carries a buoyancy system for selectively floating the structure on the body of water or sinking the structure in the water. A substantially enclosed boathouse may form the structure when the structure has only a lower level. The boathouse is separable into sections each of which could be separately rolled over the ground by wheels attached to each section. This reduces the usual operational width of the boathouse into the smaller towed widths of the individual sections to ease the task of transporting the boathouse over the ground.

  • Patent number: 7387595
Abstract: This invention relates to an exercise machine having an exercise station that includes an exercise bench and one or more exercise implements for allowing a user to perform one or more exercises. An adjustable exercise mass assembly is oriented perpendicularly to the exercise station and includes a pivotal lever. An exercise mass is carried on the pivotal lever and is movable back and forth thereon towards and away from the pivot axis of the pivotal lever to adjust the exercise resistance provided by the exercise mass. The exercise mass preferably comprises at least one selectorized dumbbell. Portions of the dumbbell can be removed from the pivotal lever for use as a dumbbell while some of the weights of the selectorized dumbbell remain in place on the pivotal lever. This allows the mass provided by the selectorized dumbbell(s) to be simultaneously used by multiple users.
