    Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the continuous production of a chemically uniform copolymer comprising 15 to 50% by weight of acrylonitrile and from 85 to 50% by weight of vinyl chloride and, optionally, up to 4% by weight of at least one other copolymerized ethylenically unsaturated comonomer containing acid groups by emulsion polymerization, wherein the copolymerization reaction is carried out with a monomer ratio of acrylonitrile to vinyl chloride of from 0.02 to 0.5, in the presence of a redox catalyst and in an acidic medium.

    Abstract: A homopolymer or copolymer which contains, as a monomer unit, at least one styrene of the formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 independently of one another denote hydrogen, fluorine or partly or completely fluorinated alkyl or alkoxy andR.sup.4 and R.sup.5 independently of one another represent hydrogen or fluoride, the total number of fluorine atoms in the radicals R.sup.1 to R.sup.5 being at least 3 and the total number of carbon atoms in the radicals R.sup.1 to R.sup.3 being at most 8. The homo- or copolymers can be prepared by vinyl polymerization. They are useful as lenses or other components in an optical system where they have a refractive index n.sub.D of 1.42 to 1.55 with an Abbe number v.sub.D of 30 to 50.

    Abstract: Acrylonitrile polymers and copolymers with good affinity for basic dyes without sulfonic acid groups containing comonomers are obtained by polymerizing at a temperature of from 0.degree. to 60.degree. C. in an aliphatic hydrocarbon having a boiling point of from -10.degree. to 80.degree. C. or in a mixture of aliphatic hydrocarbons having boiling points in the range from -10.degree. to 80.degree. C. using an initiator system comprising from 0.1 to 8.0 mole percent of sulfur dioxide, from 0.1 to 2.0 mole percent of a hydroperoxide which is soluble in the reaction medium and from 0.01 to 1.0 mole percent of an acid which is soluble in the reaction system in that polymerization is carried out continuously and in that an average residence time of from 10 minutes to 2 hours is maintained.
