Patent number: 11689834Abstract: A portable electronic device can include a housing defining an aperture and a display positioned in the aperture. The display and the housing can define an internal volume and a speaker assembly can be positioned in the internal volume. The speaker assembly can include a speaker enclosure sealed to the housing within the internal volume, the speaker enclosure and the housing defining a speaker volume, and a speaker module in fluid communication with the speaker volume, the speaker module including a diaphragm positioned at an aperture defined by the speaker volume, the diaphragm defining multiple ridges.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 2020Date of Patent: June 27, 2023Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventors: Carli E. Oster, Colden N. Eldridge, Russell K. Williams, David Garrido Lopez, Forhad Hasnat, Alexander P. Niemeyer, Brandon Z. Frank, Melody L. Kuna, Matthew J. Wilander, Jordi A. Garcia Selva, Stuart M. Patent number: 11487322Abstract: An electronic device is disclosed. The electronic device may include an enclosure and a transparent cover. The electronic device may include a display assembly. The electronic device may further include an inductive charging unit designed to inductively charge a stylus, or other object suitable for use with the display assembly. The electronic device may further include audio modules, at least some of which are designed to cause resonation of the enclosure to produce acoustical energy in the form of audible sound. Some audio modules produce acoustical energy in relatively low frequencies, while other audio modules produce acoustical energy in relatively high frequencies. The electronic device may further include a vision system designed for facial recognition. The display assembly may include a metal chassis as well as antennae for wireless communication. In order to prevent antennae interference, the metal chassis can be electrically grounded to the enclosure.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 2020Date of Patent: November 1, 2022Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Melody L. Kuna, Ryan J. Mihelich, Taylor Harrison Gilbert, Joel N. Ruscher, Carli E. Oster, Alex Chun Lap Yeung

Patent number: 10908654Abstract: An electronic device may be provided with a display and conductive sidewalls. The display may include conductive display structures and a cover layer. The cover layer may be mounted to the sidewalls. The sidewalls may define antenna apertures for antennas in the device. Grounding structures may be coupled between the conductive display structures and the sidewalls at locations that at least partially overlap the antenna apertures. The grounding structures may include conductive tape having an adhesive surface. The conductive tape may have a first end at which the adhesive surface is coupled to the conductive display structures. The conductive tape may have a second end that is folded around a layer of heat-activated film and that is coupled to both the display cover layer and the conductive sidewalls. Conductive tape overlapping each antenna aperture may be concurrently assembled into the electronic device as the display is mounted to the sidewalls.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 2018Date of Patent: February 2, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Carli E. Oster, Chi Zhang, Haowei Wang, Lucas R. Compton
