Abstract: This document describes gestures for interactive textiles. A gesture manager is implemented at a computing device that is wirelessly coupled to the interactive textile. The gesture manager enables the user to create gestures and assign the gestures to various functionalities of the computing device to enable the user to initiate a functionality, at a subsequent time, by inputting a gesture assigned to the functionality into the interactive textile. The gesture manager may be configured to select a functionality based on both a gesture to the interactive textile and a context of the computing device. In one or more implementations, the interactive textile is coupled to one or more output devices (e.g., a light source, a speaker, or a display) that is integrated within the flexible object. The output device can be controlled to provide notifications and/or feedback to the user based on the user's interactions with the interactive textile.

Abstract: A method for interactive delivery of cloud-based content to a user viewing a display comprises displaying a main interface screen on the display. The main interface screen comprises a background, presenting selected streamed content; a foreground overlay, comprising a timeline-based cross information bar; and a header presenting a plurality of control icons. In one aspect, the background reaches the boundaries of the display, the cross information bar comprises a vertical bar, comprising a scrollable listing of content categories, and a horizontal bar, comprising a listing of representations of cloud-based content the user is authorized to access, such that when the user selects one of the content categories, the horizontal bar extends to the right from the selected category listing, and is populated with representations of content corresponding to the selected category.

Abstract: A screen generating unit 287 generates a home screen for allowing a user to select a desired item of content from among multiple items of content, and the home screen includes a list in which multiple icons representing the multiple items of content are arranged. A display control unit displays the home screen on a television monitor 204. The screen generating unit 287 further arranges, in the list on the home screen, a search icon used to search for an item of content.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for interoperating a device with network based services. In one embodiment, a method includes detecting registration with a service account, providing a graphical display for user selection during output associated with content stored by the device, the graphical display identifying a network based service based on the service account, and detecting user selection of the graphical display, wherein the network based service relates to a network accessible third party service associated with the device based on the service account. The method may further include transmitting the content by the device based on the user selection to the network based service.

Abstract: Utilizing publishing and subscribing clients in network media channels having a first network coupled to at least a first server and a second server. The first server includes storage configured to store media data, and a network media channel manager configured to send and receive the media data according to one or more network media channels. The first server is also coupled to a publishing client, which is configured to publish the media data using a first network media channel selected from the one or more network media channels, and a subscribing client in a local network external to a first network. The subscribing client subscribes and accesses the media data using a second network media channel selected from the one or more network media channels. One or more network media channels include at least one local channel that is limited to the local network so that only the subscribing client can present to the local channel.

Abstract: Disclosed are approaches for user interface control. In one embodiment, a method can include: indicating a highlight of a first object of a plurality of objects displayed on a display screen; accepting a signal deriving from a first gesture input of a user indicating a neutral position relative to the highlighted first object; accepting a signal deriving from a second gesture input of the user indicating a directional position at least a predetermined distance from the neutral position; and indicating, in response to the second gesture input, a movement of the highlight from the first object to a second object adjacent to the first object, and where the directional position of the second gesture input correlates to a position on the display screen of the second object relative to the first object.

Abstract: An information processing apparatus including an operation input unit including an operation surface having virtual buttons variably set thereto is disclosed. The apparatus includes a position detection unit detecting whether a user touches the operation surface of the operation input unit, and a position at which the user touches the operation surface thereof, and a pressure detection unit detecting pressure applied by the user touching the operation surface thereof. The apparatus further includes a virtual button control unit interpreting, when the position detection unit has detected the position at which the user touches the operation surface thereof, a virtual button corresponding to the detected position as a selected virtual button, and correcting, when the pressure detected is equal to or greater than a first threshold value, a layout of the virtual buttons such that a size of the selected virtual button is enlarged according to intensity of the detected pressure.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method of controlling a user interface can include: displaying a plurality of objects on a display screen, where each of the plurality of objects represents media content; accepting, by a computing device, a signal indicating user selection of an object from the plurality of objects; determining personal relevancy data associated with the selected object, where the personal relevancy data is determined by using a recommendation engine and at least in part by accessing content from a social network; playing the media content represented by the selected object, where the media content is displayed in a background on the display screen; and displaying the personal relevancy data in a foreground on the display screen.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method of controlling a user interface can include: displaying first objects in a foreground on a display screen, where each first object represents media content, and where the first objects are displayed with a first display characteristic; accepting a signal indicating user selection of one of the first objects; displaying media content for the selected object in a background on the display screen, where the media content is displayed in the background with a second display characteristic, where the second display characteristic includes a changed cinematic characteristic from the first display characteristic in order to reduce attraction of attention for the second display characteristic relative to the first display characteristic; and displaying second objects in the foreground on the display screen, where the second objects are associated with the selected object, and where the second objects are displayed with the first display characteristic.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for a user interface to allow for navigating a hierarchical menu. In one embodiment a method includes displaying a user interface including one or more menu elements, wherein each menu element is associated with a row of content titles that may be displayed by the user interface and detecting an input command associated with a menu element. The method may further include updating the display of the user interface based on the input command, wherein presentation of a row of content titles associated with the menu element is updated to allow for navigation within the row, and wherein content titles presented by the user interface for the menu element are a subset of content titles that may be accessed based on the menu element. The method may allow for bypassing one or more levels of the hierarchical menu.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for presenting a user interface by a device. In one embodiment a method includes detecting a user selection associated with a media title of a user interface displayed by the device, determining rankings of one or more association categories for the media title, wherein rankings are determined based on scoring of a plurality of association categories relative to characteristics of the media title, and displaying a graphical element associated with the media title based on the user selection. The method may further include displaying one or more graphical elements for a plurality of association categories based on the scoring, wherein the one or more graphical elements are displayed based on rank of the association categories relative to the media title.

Abstract: A user interface apparatus has a flexible part including a one-dimensional analog sensor for sensing distortion of the flexible part, and a processor unit for detecting one of input states based on a value of the detected distortion and having a task run. The task relates to a selected input state. The input states are related to dynamic or static positive/negative distortion of the flexible part. The user interacts with the apparatus by physically manipulating a body of the apparatus.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for implementing an interface for media publishing. In one implementation, a method of publishing media data includes: accessing a media interface of a media device; capturing media data using a media capture component of said media device; storing said captured media data in a media file in storage of said media device; modifying said captured media data; and publishing said modified media data to a network server; wherein said capturing, modifying, and publishing are performed using said media interface.
