    Abstract: A high salinity feed water such as seawater is treated to produce a reverse osmosis (RO) concentrate and an RO permeate. Optionally, some or all of the RO concentrate may be filtered to produce a nanofiltration (NF) permeate. The NF permeate, or a blend of the RO permeate and NF permeate, may be used to produce a product water for injection into an oil-bearing reservoir to enhance oil recovery. The current monitor monitors current drawn by a load coupled to the device and generate an alert signal in response to the monitored current exceeding a predefined threshold value. The electronic switch decouples a battery from the load in response to the alert signal, the electronic switch being electrically disconnected from a negative terminal of the battery coupled to the device. The energy harvester stores energy from the battery while the load is drawing current from the battery. The load controller receives, from the energy harvester, the stored energy from the energy harvester and generates a voltage to power the current monitor to reset the alert signal while the battery is decoupled from the load.

A device coupled to a PSE port can be identified as a non-PD in response to determining a data link is established on the port before enabling the detection of powered devices on the port and before supplying power on the port. Another embodiment includes determining that a device has been coupled to the port, determining that a data link to the device has been established on the port, removing power from the port, and then determining whether the data link established on the port still exists.
