    Abstract: A magnesium alloy having high ductility and high toughness, and a preparation method thereof are provided, in which the magnesium alloy includes 1.0-3.5 wt % of tin, 0.05-3.0 wt % of zinc, and the balance of magnesium and inevitable impurities, and a preparation method thereof. Magnesium alloy with a relatively small tin content is added with zinc, and optionally, with one or more alloy elements selected from aluminum, manganese and rare earth metal, at a predetermined content ratio. As a result, the alloy exhibits superior ductility and moderate strength due to the suppression of excessive formation of precipitates and some precipitates hardening effect, respectively. Accordingly, compared to extruded material prepared from conventional commercial magnesium alloys, higher ductility and toughness are provided, so that the alloy can be widely applied over the entire industries including automotive and aerospace industries.

    Abstract: A receive only smart antenna with a command pointing option for communicating with geostationary satellites that autonomously detects the directions from which desired signal are received, and steer the multiple beams accordingly. An array feed is used to illuminate a parabolic reflector. Each feed element of the receive only smart antenna is associated with a unique beam pointing direction. As a receiver is switched to different feed elements, the far-field beam is scanned, making it possible to track a geostationary satellite in a slightly inclined orbit. This eliminates the need for mechanical tracking and maintains high antenna gain in the direction of the geostationary satellite. The receive only smart antenna also features capabilities to form multiple simultaneous beams supporting operations of multiple geo-satellites in closely spaced slightly inclined orbits. The designs can support orthogonal beams for enhanced bandwidth capacity via multiple beams with excellent spatial isolation.

    Abstract: An apparatus for friction reduction and biofouling prevention is invented, which consists of an anodic electro-catalytic layer and a cathodic electro-catalytic layer installed on the submerged surface of a carrier. There is an insulating filling between the anodic layer and the cathodic layer. The layered coatings are applied with the use of electric arc spraying technique. A first DC power supply unit is connected to the anodic layer and the cathodic layer. The anodic layer, the cathodic layer, the DC power supply unit, and water together form the conducting path for water electro-catalysis. Hydrogen and oxygen gases are produced to form a thin gas film on the submerged surface to reduce friction and prevent biofouling on the carrier. Alternatively, the apparatus produces hydroxyl radicals to kill marine microorganisms and reduce the risk of biofouling and biocorrosion.

    Abstract: A peptide-based marker vaccine against Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) and a set of immunodiagnostic tests for the prevention, monitoring and control of Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus (PRRSV) are disclosed. Vaccine formulations according to various embodiments of the invention contain a mixture of peptides derived from PRRSV GP2, GP3, GP4, or GP5 proteins; each peptide individually contains a B cell PRRSV neutralizing/receptor binding epitope which is individually linked to an artificial T helper epitope for enhancement of the respective peptide's immunogenicity; and which can be supplemented with a mixture of peptides representing the T helper epitopes derived from the PRRSV GP4, GP5, M and Nucleocapsid proteins to provide cell mediated immunity. Such viral peptide compositions are prepared in an acceptable delivery system as vaccine formulations and can provide cross protection of PRRSV antibody free pigs from infection upon PRRSV challenge.
