    Abstract: A method and apparatus for tracking a color-based object in video sequences are provided. According to the method, an initial object area in one frame of video sequences desired to be tracked is assigned, and an initial object effective window containing the initial object area is assigned. A frame following the frame containing the assigned initial object area is received as a newly input image, and an object search window containing the initial object area for tracking and the initial object effective window in the newly input image is assigned. Then, the model histogram of the initial object area corresponding to a predetermined bin resolution value and the input histogram of the image in the object search window are calculated. From the calculated object probability image, using a predetermined method, a new object area to which the initial object area moved is obtained in the next frame in which the initial object area of the frame desired to be tracked is given as a previous (tracked) object area.

    Abstract: Provided are an image brightness controlling apparatus and method, and an adaptive brightness controlling apparatus and method based on the brightness degree and/or brightness range of an image. The image brightness controlling apparatus includes a brightness increment arithmetic unit for outputting a brightness increment for a pixel, and an individual component brightness increment arithmetic unit for outputting the brightness increments of individual components constituting the pixel in response to the brightness increment for a pixel. The individual component brightness increment arithmetic unit multiplies the brightness increment of the pixel by each of the unit vectors of the components constituting the pixel to obtain the brightness increments of the individual components. The image brightness controlling apparatus further includes an adder for adding the components constituting the pixel to the brightness increments of the components.

    Abstract: A color temperature conversion method and apparatus having a luminance correction conversion function are provided. The color temperature conversion method controls a color temperature of an image display device. In the color temperature conversion method, a user-set color temperature is compared with a pre-stored basic color temperature for each sample luminance, thus converting a color temperature of an input pixel. A luminance scale factor corresponding to the user-set color temperature is calculated with respect to the converted input pixel, and a luminance correction conversion function is performed using the calculated luminance scale factor. Accordingly, a color temperature conversion method and apparatus having a luminance correction conversion function corrects luminance using a preset luminance scale factor, thus preventing distorted gray scale representation that may occur in the conversion and correction of color temperature.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for expanding bit resolution using local information of an image receives an input image. First, second and third threshold value used to enhance bit resolution, to detect a texture and to detect a pattern, respectively, are determined considering global information of the input image. A texture existing in a mask region composed of surrounding pixels within a predetermined range around a current pixel is determined using the second threshold value. A regularly repeated pattern existing in the mask region is determined using the third threshold value if no texture exists in the mask region. The first threshold value is decreased if a texture or pattern exists in the mask region. Values of mask region pixels are adjusted depending on the first threshold value, and bit resolution of the current pixel value is enhanced using a resultant value obtained by filtering the adjusted pixel values.
