    Abstract: A rekeyable lock cylinder comprises a plurality of first rack components, a plurality of second rack components and a guide bar having a first surface engaged with the first rack components. The second rack components are movable via contacting against a first matched key which is inserted in a first direction. The guide bar has a second surface, a first side, a second side, and a tool-receiving portion recessed into the first side. The tool-receiving portion is parallel to the first direction, and the first rack components are actuated by the guide bar via acting force applied by the rekeying tool accommodated in the tool-receiving portion therefore enabling the first rack components to move in a transverse direction relative to the first direction and disengaging the first rack components from the second rack components.

The signal-length calculator calculates a length of the first binary signal and a length of one previous to the first binary signal. The determining unit generates a selecting signal when the length of the first binary signal and the length of one previous to the first binary signal meet a criterion. The selecting unit coupled to the maximum-likelihood detector and the non-maximum likelihood detector, selectively outputs the first binary signal or the second binary signal based on the selecting signal.

    Abstract: A method and an apparatus for deciding a spherical aberration compensation (SAC) value for an optical storage medium are provided. The optical storage medium comprises at least one recording layer and a cover layer. The SAC value is suitable for a selected one of the at least one recording layer. First, a focus search on the optical storage medium is performed to derive a focus error (FE) signal in response to a testing SAC value. Then, a center level and a center basis corresponding to the testing SAC value according to the FE signal is determined. The SAC value according to the center level, the center basis, and the testing SAC value is also determined. When the center level and the center basis are equal, the SAC value is determined to be the testing SAC value.

    Abstract: The invention provides a method for determining the layer type of a blu-ray disk. First, a laser beam is focused on a target layer of the blu-ray disk. Reflection of the laser beam from the target layer is the detected to obtain a reflection signal. The reflection signal is then processed to generate a first tracking error signal and a second tracking error signal. Magnitudes of the first tracking error signal and the second tracking error signal are then measured. The magnitude of the second tracking error signal is then subtracted from the magnitude of the first tracking error signal to obtain a difference value. Finally, the layer type of the target layer is determined by comparing the difference value with the first predetermined threshold.
