  • Patent number: 7944784
Abstract: A detector is scanned across an optical storage medium having groove tracks and land tracks, each track having a wobble structure, to detect light reflected from the optical storage medium. A wobble signal and a tracking error signal are generated based on an output of the detector, and the wobble signal is sampled according to the tracking error signal. A determination about whether the detector is at the groove track or the land track is made based on the tracking error signal and a comparison of sampled values of the wobble signal.

  • Publication number: 20100310020
Abstract: A data recovery system and method is disclosed. Said data recovery system comprises a maximum-likelihood detector, a non-maximum likelihood detector, signal-length calculator, a determining unit and a selecting unit. The maximum-likelihood detector transforms a digital signal into a first binary signal. The non-maximum likelihood detector transforms the digital signal into a second binary signal. The signal-length calculator calculates a length of the first binary signal and a length of one previous to the first binary signal. The determining unit generates a selecting signal when the length of the first binary signal and the length of one previous to the first binary signal meet a criterion. The selecting unit coupled to the maximum-likelihood detector and the non-maximum likelihood detector, selectively outputs the first binary signal or the second binary signal based on the selecting signal.

  • Patent number: 7839734
Abstract: The invention provides a method for controlling spherical aberration correction for an optical disk drive. First, a collimator lens is moved to a first target position for spherical aberration correction. A driving time of motion of the collimator lens is then calculated. A prohibiting time is then determined according to the driving time. The collimator lens is then prevented from moving until the prohibiting time elapses.

  • Publication number: 20100272139
Abstract: The invention provides a driving circuit for driving a laser diode of a pickup head. In one embodiment, the driving circuit comprises an automatic power control (APC) module, a clamp value determination unit, and a clamp circuit. The automatic power control module generates at least one power control signal. The clamp value determination unit dynamically determines at least one clamp value corresponding to the power control signal when the pickup head accesses an optical storage medium. The clamp circuit clamps the power control signal according to the clamp value to obtain a clamped power control signal. A driving signal for driving the laser diode can then be generated according to at least the clamped power control signal.

  • Patent number: 7801251
Abstract: A data recovery system and method is disclosed. Said data recovery system comprises a maximum-likelihood detector, a non-maximum likelihood detector, a decision unit, and a selecting unit. The maximum-likelihood detector transforms a digital signal into a first binary signal. The non-maximum likelihood detector transforms the digital signal into a second binary signal.
