  • Publication number: 20120179115
Abstract: A pen needle (101) for use with a drug delivery device (100) includes a hub body (113) having internal threads (216) to receive the drug delivery device (100). A post (121) is connected to the hub body (113). A needle (103) is rigidly fixed to the post (121). The post (121) is separable from the hub body (113) such that the needle (103) is removed with the post (121). The fluid path is not disturbed by such removal because the entire needle (103) is removed with the post (121). Removal of only the post (121) and needle (103) reduces the volume of waste required for disposal, thereby increasing the effective capacity of a sharps container.

  • Publication number: 20120029431
Abstract: A reservoir and straight-line, push-on connector assembly is provided for connecting the reservoir and one of a standard Luer line set and a custom Luer line set to any number of infusion pump configurations using a simple straight-line, push-on motion, wherein the push-on connector assembly is provided and configured to secure the line set and reservoir with the infusion pump. One simple straight-line, push-on motion, preferably performed by gripping an expander sleeve, places and secures the reservoir (i.e., locates the reservoir on the x, y, and z axes) in the pump reservoir cavity, and one simple straight-line, pull-off motion releases and removes the reservoir from the pump reservoir cavity. Rotational orientation is not required for connection, pump engagement, or pump function, and any pulling of the tube set will not release the reservoir as the expansion sleeve through which the tube set is routed is not moved from the securing position by tension on the tube set or Luer fitting.

  • Publication number: 20080039800
Abstract: A luer connector assembly is provided for enhancing the frictional engagement between medical devices such as syringes and needle assemblies. The assembly needle includes a female luer fitting having a passageway and a relatively soft, resilient member bounding the passageway. The passageway is also bounded by the body of the fitting, which is harder than the soft, resilient member. A male luer fitting inserted into the passageway engages both the soft, resilient member and the body of the female luer fitting. A method of manufacturing such a connector assembly is further provided. A first material is injected into a mold to form the body of a female luer fitting, the fitting including a passageway and a recess extending into the body. A second material is then injected such that it extends into the recess and bounds the passageway. The second material, when cool, is softer than the first material.

  • Publication number: 20070106224
Abstract: A needle shield and needle shield assembly are provided for preventing accidental needle sticks. The needle shield includes opposing sidewalls and is pivotable between an open position that allows use of the needle cannula and a closed position that covers at least the tip of the needle cannula. A locking member extends from one of the sidewalls of the needle shield and includes a relatively rigid base portion and a relatively flexible end portion. The needle cannula engages the relatively flexible end portion when entering the needle shield cavity, deflecting it with respect to the base portion. Upon any attempt to move the needle shield from the closed position to the open position, the needle cannula is directed by the locking member towards the relatively rigid base portion, thereby making it very difficult to reuse the needle cannula.

  • Publication number: 20070100296
Abstract: A needle shield is provided for a medical device having a needle cannula. The needle shield includes a guard that is slidably movable along the needle cannula from a proximal position where the tip of the needle cannula is exposed to a distal position where the tip of the needle cannula is shielded. A hinged arm connects the guard to the proximal end of the needle cannula. The hinged arm can be collapsed upon itself, such that the guard is adjacent to the proximal end of the needle cannula. The hinged arm can be extended to cause the guard to move distally along the needle cannula and into a position for shielding the tip of the needle cannula. Structure is provided to prevent excessive additional rotation of the hinged elements of the hinged guard after the tip of the needle cannula is shielded.
