  • Publication number: 20210055821
Abstract: According to the teachings herein, a method and apparatus are provided for facilitating touch entries to a touchscreen of an electronic device. In particular, the teachings herein facilitate one-handed touch entry, such as where a user operates the touchscreen of the device using a digit of the same hand used to hold the device. Advantageously, an electronic device detects when a user is reaching to make a touch input to the touchscreen and it correspondingly adapts the visual content currently being displayed i.e., the current screen responsive to detecting the reach. Example adaptations include any one or more of shifting, warping and resealing the screen, to bring an estimated touch target within a defined reach extent configured in the electronic device.

  • Publication number: 20210012261
Abstract: A self-driving control device mountable on a vehicle configured to communicate with a server device. The self-driving control device includes: a processor; and a memory including instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations including: generating a route to a destination; controlling traveling during self-driving of the vehicle to the destination based on information of the route to the destination; and receiving information of a guidance route to a place satisfying the demand transmitted from the server device in response to input operation of a demand on an order of a user. In generating the route to the destination, the processor generates information of a route obtained by merging the guidance route with the route to the destination as the information of the route to the destination in response to approval operation of the user with respect to the place.

  • Publication number: 20200410883
Abstract: A method is implemented by a computing device for helping a particular user use a user interface (UI). Electroencephalography (EEG) data is obtained that indicates brain activity of a particular user during a period in which that user views the UI and/or interprets help information that describes how to use the UI. Based on the EEG data, the computing device selects, from among multiple predefined cognitive states, the one or more cognitive states that characterize the particular user during the period. The computing device assists the particular user to use the UI by customizing the help information for the particular user based on the one or more selected cognitive states. A complementary computing device and computer program product are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20200349762
Abstract: A system and method is provided for generating a finite element (FE) model of an anatomical structure based on a fitted model of the anatomical structure and association data. A segmentation model may be provided for segmenting the anatomical structure. Association data may be obtained which associates a segmentation model part of the segmentation model with a mesh property, the segmentation model part representing a pre-determined anatomical region of interest. The segmentation model may be applied to a medical image of a subject, thereby obtaining a fitted model providing a segmentation of the anatomical structure. The finite element model may then be generated based on the fitted model and the association data, said generating comprising meshing a finite element model part of the finite element model in accordance with the mesh property, the finite element model part corresponding with the pre-determined anatomical region of interest.

  • Publication number: 20200326811
Abstract: A device for providing a touch-based user interface is disclosed. The device comprises a screen, a camera, and a processor. The camera images a reflection of the screen by a cornea of a user of the device. The processor displays at least one user-interface element on the screen, detects that a finger of a hand touches or is about to touch the screen, estimates a trajectory of the finger, and determines an intended location of touch of the finger on the screen. The trajectory of the finger is estimated by analyzing a sequence of images of the reflection. The intended location of touch is determined based on the estimated trajectory of the finger.

  • Patent number: 10776828
Abstract: A method for facilitating a promotion using autonomous vehicles is provided. The method includes extracting requirements for a promotion activity, collecting first sensor data of the promotion activity on a route of a first autonomous vehicle, and determining whether the promotion activity for which the first sensor data is collected is a valid promotion opportunity. If the promotion activity is determined to be the valid promotion opportunity, when a second autonomous vehicle is determined to be traveling on a route passing by a location of the promotion activity, collecting second sensor data of the promotion activity, and determining, based on the second sensor data and the details of the valid promotion opportunity, whether the second sensor data corresponds to the valid promotion opportunity. • Publication number: 20200267110
Abstract: In certain embodiments, trigger-associated user messaging may be facilitated. In some embodiments, a first set of candidate users for messaging with a first user in connection with occurrence of a first trigger associated with the first user may be obtained. The first user may be monitored via one or more sensors for occurrence of the first trigger. A first occurrence of the first trigger may be determined based on the monitoring. Based on the first occurrence of the first trigger, the first set of candidate users may be accessed to initiate messaging between the first user and one or more users of the first set of candidate users. Messaging between the first user and a second user (of the first set of candidate users) may be initiated based on the second user having a higher priority than a third user of the first set of candidate users.

  • Patent number: 10705615
Abstract: A mobile communications device adjusts a level of friction between a surface of the device and one or more other objects that may be in contact with the device, such as receipts, credit cards, keys, money, the user's hand or fingers, and the like. To adjust the friction, the device first determines its current environmental context, such as whether it is inside the user's pocket or lying on a table surface, for example. Then, based on that context, the device varies a coefficient of friction to increase or decrease the friction between the surface of the device and the surfaces of the other objects. Varying the friction allows a user to grip the device easier and/or reduce the chance that the other objects in contact with the device are also inadvertently removed from the storage location with the device.

  • Publication number: 20200084061
Abstract: A method for monitoring and controlling device activity is disclosed. The method comprises collecting device activity data relating to a first media consumer, wherein the device activity data corresponds to activity of one or more devices in an environment of the first media consumer during playback of a given media asset by the first media consumer. The method then determines, based on the device activity data, at least one action performable by a device in an environment of a second media consumer. Playback of the given media asset by the second media consumer is detected; and in response to detecting playback of the given media asset, one or more devices in an environment of the second media consumer are controlled to perform the determined actions.

  • Patent number: 10554396
Abstract: A communications device for generating a key for use as a shared secret in communications with another communications device. Each communications device comprises a sensor array for measuring a spatially-varying magnetic field originating from a first spatially-varying density of metallic particles comprised in a first battery, when subjected to an excitation magnetic field, and processing means operative to acquire a set of values from the sensor array, which set of values represents the spatially-varying magnetic field, and to derive the key from the set of values. The excitation magnetic field is generated by a magnetic-field generator comprised in one of the communications devices. Thereby, the two communications devices may, when in proximity, generate identical keys by probing the spatially-varying density of metallic particles comprised in the first battery.

  • Patent number: 10547217
Abstract: A wirelessly rechargeable device (20) is positioned on an underlying charging surface (S) for charging a battery of the wirelessly rechargeable device. While the wirelessly rechargeable device is charging, it is detected whether the wirelessly rechargeable device is being displaced (A), or is likely to be displaced, relative to the charging surface. Additionally, it is detected whether the displacement, or the potential displacement, is unintentional. In response to detecting that the wirelessly rechargeable device has been displaced, or is likely to be displaced, a magnetic field between the charging surface and the wirelessly rechargeable device is controlled to inhibit the unintentional displacement of the wirelessly rechargeable device.

  • Patent number: 10497127
Abstract: A system and method are provided for segmentation of an anatomical structure in which a user may interactively specify a limited set of boundary points of the anatomical structure in a view of a medical image. The set of boundary points may, on its own, be considered an insufficient segmentation of the anatomical structure in the medical image, but is rather used to select a segmentation model from a plurality of different segmentation models. The selection is based on a goodness-of-fit measure between the boundary points and each of the segmentation models. For example, a best-fitting model may be selected and used for segmentation of the anatomical structure. It is therefore not needed for the user to delineate the entire anatomical structure, which would be time consuming and ultimately error prone, nor is it needed for a segmentation algorithm to autonomously have to select a segmentation model, which may yield an erroneous selection.
