Patent number: 8222581Abstract: A process of using finite element analysis for determining the behavior of a system, submitted to predetermined load and displacement boundary conditions with a degree of freedom relative to a local coordinate system released at one system node. For a geometrically non-linear solution scheme, a plurality of incremental steps are carried, for which computing for a finite element of the system a displacement vector at the nodes of the finite element is performed by minimizing the energy of the system. For a geometrically linear solution scheme, a single solving step is carried. The step of minimizing is carried out, for a node having a released degree of freedom, in a local frame of reference, and the released degree of freedom at the node is expressed along one axis of such frame. Hybrid reference frames allow expressing and considering in the formulation the constraints of the non-released degrees of freedom simply.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 2006Date of Patent: July 17, 2012Assignee: Dassault SystemesInventors: Charles-André De Hillerin, Sébastien Voegele

Publication number: 20100157737Abstract: Methods and related systems are described for measuring acoustic signals in a borehole during a fracturing operation. The system includes a downhole toolstring designed and adapted for deployment in a borehole formed within a subterranean rock formation. A downhole rock fracturing tool opens and propagates a fracture in the subterranean rock formation. Dipole and/or quadrupole acoustic sources transmit acoustic energy into the subterranean rock formation. A receiver array measures acoustic energy traveling through the subterranean rock formation before, during and after the fracture induction. Geophones mounted on extendable arms can be used to measure shear wave acoustic energy travelling in the rock formation. The toolstring can be constructed such that the sources and receivers straddle the fracture zone during the fracturing.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 28, 2009Publication date: June 24, 2010Applicant: SCHLUMBERGER TECHNOLOGY CORPORATIONInventors: DOUGLAS E. Patent number: 7587303Abstract: For determining the behavior of a flexible system submitted to predetermined displacement boundary conditions, a process uses geometrically non-linear finite element analysis. The process has a plurality of incremental steps within a total Lagrangian formalism with co-rotational update. In each incremental step, one computes for a finite element of the flexible system a displacement vector, having translational and rotational components, at the nodes of the finite element. This computation of the displacement vector is carried out by minimizing the energy of the flexible system when the system is submitted to a fraction of the predetermined displacement. For a given finite element, the co-rotational update is carried out by computing an updated elementary frame of reference, without considering the bending rotational components of the displacement vectors computed at the nodes of the finite element. The properties of this co-rotational update make all computations similar, hence simpler and easier.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 2006Date of Patent: September 8, 2009Assignee: Dassault SystemesInventors: Charles-André De Hillerin, Sébastien Voegele

Patent number: 7499845Abstract: Analyzing the mechanical state of an assembly modeled by a computer aided design system includes generating a model of a fastener and a part of the assembly. The fastener model includes an engaging region and the part model includes a receiving region to fastenably receive the engaging region. The fastener and the part are each represented by finite element representations that include elastically interconnected nodes. A tightening mesh interconnecting nodes of the engaging region and nodes of the receiving region is generated and a force applied between the nodes of the engaging and receiving region is determined based on a pre-tension force occurring upon engaging the engaging region with the receiving region.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 2002Date of Patent: March 3, 2009Assignee: Dassault SystemesInventors: Jean-Baptiste Quincy, Emmanuel Savinien, Charles-Andre DeHillerin, Christian Naveau
