  • Publication number: 20070064016
Abstract: For determining the behavior of a flexible system submitted to predetermined displacement boundary conditions, a process uses geometrically non-linear finite element analysis. The process has a plurality of incremental steps within a total Lagrangian formalism with co-rotational update. In each incremental step, one computes for a finite element of the flexible system a displacement vector, having translational and rotational components, at the nodes of the finite element. This computation of the displacement vector is carried out by minimizing the energy of the flexible system when the system is submitted to a fraction of the predetermined displacement. For a given finite element, the co-rotational update is carried out by computing an updated elementary frame of reference, without considering the bending rotational components of the displacement vectors computed at the nodes of the finite element. The properties of this co-rotational update make all computations similar, hence simpler and easier.

  • Publication number: 20070007382
Abstract: A process of using finite element analysis for determining the behaviour of a system, submitted to predetermined load and displacement boundary conditions with a degree of freedom relative to a local coordinate system released at one node of the system. For a geometrically non-linear solution scheme, a plurality of incremental steps are carried, for which computing for a finite element of the system a displacement vector at the nodes of the finite element is performed by minimizing the energy of the system. For a geometrically linear solution scheme, a single solving step is carried, for which similar steps of computing for a finite element and timely minimizing of the system's energy are performed. The step of minimizing is carried out, for a node having a released degree of freedom, in a local frame of reference, and the released degree of freedom at the node is expressed along one axis of such frame.

  • Patent number: 6714873
Abstract: A method and system is described for estimating stress characteristics from seismic data. The method includes receiving seismic data acquired over a region, receiving properties of rock at a location within the region, and estimating one or more stress characteristics for a sub-region by combining the seismic data and the rock properties using a relationship between the stress characteristics in the sub-region and elastic stiffness and/or sonic velocity in the sub-region. The relationship is based on a non-linear elasticity theory.

  • Patent number: 5750346
Abstract: Cloning systems useful for the isolation of recombinant nucleic acid are disclosed in which the recombination of cloning-system nucleic acid and foreign nucleic acid is linked to the expression of a moiety on the surface of a host organism, the moiety being a first member of a binding pair. When recombination occurs between the nucleic acid and the foreign nucleic acid, the moiety is expressed on the surface of the host organism. The isolation of recombinant nucleic acid is then performed by attaching a second member of the binding pair to a solid support and contacting the host organism with the support. When the first member of the binding pair is expressed on the surface of the host organism, the host organism binds to the second member of the binding pair attached to the solid support, thereby selectively isolating those organisms. Other aspects of the invention include devices for the isolation of individual cells that differentially express binding moieties on their surface.

  • Patent number: 4571580
Abstract: A movable permanent magnet (38) is moved by a rotating rig (29, 30) driven by a spiral thermometer (27). This magnet is designed to activate an interrupter (43) of an electric circuit housed in a sonic detecting-warning device (44) capable of rotating on the periphery of a housing 11. The circuit also comprises a battery (45) and a buzzer (46). When the magnet (38) rotates past the interrupter (43) it causes the interrupter to close, thereby actuating the buzzer (46). The angular position of the detector (44) is selected according to the temperature at which the warning signal is to be given.
