  • Patent number: 5561085
Abstract: A protective cap is deposited over the top and sides of an air bridge structure located on an integrated circuit chip. The protective cap provides mechanical strength during the application of a high density interconnect structure over the chips, to prevent deformation of the sensitive (air bridge) structure, and also to prevent any contamination from intruding under the air bridge. More importantly, the protective cap does not impede the performance of the air bridge and therefore does not need to be removed, thereby eliminating the necessity of ablating the HDI structure. Furthermore, the protective cap allows additional area for metallization to provide alternate circuits for coupling, power or ground planes, etc.

  • Patent number: 5378299
Abstract: A method of making a balloon includes providing two balloon films and providing two valve films. The two valve films are placed one on top of the other and then inserted between the two balloon films. Then a portion of each of the valve films is tack sealed to its respective adjacent balloon film. The valve films are then sealed together to form a valve passageway therein. During the valve sealing step, the balloon films are held in a fanned out manner. Finally, the balloon films are sealed together along the perimeter thereof to form the balloon.

  • Patent number: 5248275
Abstract: A balloon includes a pair of overlying valve film strips disposed between a pair of overlying balloon films, which include neck and body portions. The valve film strips extend at an angle to a central axis of the neck portions, and valve seals formed in the valve film strips direct incoming gas from an inlet adjacent the neck, to an outlet between the body portions. Methods of assembling the balloons by forming the valve seams and neck seams without moving the balloon films or valve film strips is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4973202
Abstract: Undesired glass particles emitted into the atmosphere from breakage of glass jars in the manufacturing process are removed utilizing an exhaust system, comprising a hood, exhaust piping, blower and cyclone. The hood and exhaust system protects the area adjacent to where glass jars are produced from emission of dangerous glass particles which result from breakage of glass jars during the assembly process.

  • Patent number: 4520357
Abstract: Information is written into a matrix-addressed electroscopic display by means of a writing stylus having a magnetic tip, utilized to attract a moveable plate electrode in a selected one of the display matrix cells. A capacitance detector, connected to sequential ones of the column electrodes of the display via a first multiplexer and to sequential ones of the row electrodes of the matrix display via a second multiplexer, detects the change in cell interelectrode capacitance caused by movement of the moveable plate electrode. The capacitance of each display cell is compared with the data for the output state commanded for that cell, to recognize input data sites programmed by the magnetic writing stylus.

  • Patent number: 4487993
Abstract: Electronics circuits having a relatively high density of relatively narrow conductors therein, are fabricated by cutting a groove into the surface of an insulating layer, as by use of laser machining apparatus and the like, for each conductor. Conductive material is placed into each groove to form each of at least one conductor on each of at least one level of the circuit. A thick film dielectric material is applied, over each insulative layer having at least one conductor embedded therein, to form insulative planes between different planes of conductor. Via interconnects are formed between conductor planes by filling a hole therebetween with conductive material.

  • Patent number: 4403217
Abstract: An improved varistor-controlled multiplexed liquid crystal display of the type having columns of front electrodes and rows of rear electrodes connected in series with combinations of varistor elements and electrical capacitances, has a capacitance of increased magnitude formed in parallel with the capacitance of the liquid crystal layer in each of the multiplicity of the display cells, for reducing capacitive crosstalk between an addressed and unaddressed cell elements of the display. The increased capacitance is provided by auxiliary data electrodes positioned below, and spaced by a thin film dielectric layer from, the reflective rear cell row electrodes of the display, and spaced from the varistor member by at least one thick film dielectric layer. A pair of thick film layers may support the row scan electrodes therebetween, or the scan electrodes may be formed between a single layer and the varistor surface.
