Patent number: 8123245Abstract: A mobile vehicle or wheelchair has the ability to provide stabilized transport to at least one individual on a variety of surfaces, slopes and/or terrains. The mobile unit or wheelchair may travel across smooth and very rough surfaces, slopes of varying or different angles and various outdoor terrains (including grassy, rocky, sandy, muddy and/or hilly terrains). In one aspect, the height of any part of the unit or the overall height of the device may be adjusted preferably to raise or lower the center of gravity. For example, the height of the device may be lowered to provide more stable transportation. In another aspect, the device may be adjusted to increase or decrease the size of the footprint (or any part of the footprint) of the device. For example, the footprint of the device may be enlarged to provide more stable transportation.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 2010Date of Patent: February 28, 2012Assignee: Life Changing Chair, LLCInventors: Charles E. Patent number: 7694780Abstract: The present invention is directed to a pump arrangement for use in a gear box housing. The interior surface of the gear box housing has a collection wall arranged in the interior surface of the housing. A shaft is rotatably disposed through the gear box housing and has a longitudinal bore extending through the shaft that provides a lubrication delivery arrangement for distributing lubricant through the gear box housing. A pump housing circumscribes the shaft and has a discharge cavity connected to the longitudinal bore. Additionally, the pump housing has an inlet port for receiving lubrication from the collection wall. Contained within the pump housing is a pump member that has an impeller face and helical threaded surface that pressurizes and introduces the lubricant into the lubricant delivery arrangement.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 2005Date of Patent: April 13, 2010Assignee: BorgWarner, Inc.Inventors: Hans R. Publication number: 20090138620Abstract: An apparatus facilitates communications between first and second entities via a network. The first entity cooperates with a first interface unit to communicate via the network using a first protocol. The second entity cooperates with a second interface unit to communicate via the network using a second protocol. The network does not support communications using at least one of the first and second protocols. The apparatus includes: (a) a first converter coupled with the first entity for emulating the cooperative relation between the second entity and the second interface unit to convert communications from the first entity into a common protocol; and (b) a second converter coupled with the second entity for emulating the cooperative relation between the first entity and the first interface unit to convert communications from the second entity into the common protocol. The first and second converters communicate via the network using the common protocol.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 27, 2007Publication date: May 28, 2009Applicant: Boeing CompanyInventors: Charles E. Patent number: 7527467Abstract: A retractable ramp system for a mobility vehicle. A ramp platform is driven by a reversible motor, associated drive pulley, and drive belt affixed to a ramp carriage assembly. A spring-loaded mechanical release assembly is used to engage the drive pulley to the motor and to disengage the drive pulley from the motor. A manual control assembly is used for manual deployment of the ramp when the drive pulley is disengaged from the motor. The ramp flap provides a transition between the ramp platform and a mobility vehicle. The ramp flap is supported by wheels which translate along the ramp platform. Linear bearing blocks attach to pivot arms of the carriage assembly, which are in turn pivotably attached to the ramp platfom. Linear bearing blocks translate the ramp platform along guide shafts during deployment and stowage.Type: GrantFiled: January 7, 2004Date of Patent: May 5, 2009Assignee: The Braun CorporationInventors: Paul H.
