  • Patent number: 7434452
Abstract: A method of engine calibration is provided for use with an engine having a plurality of combustion cylinders and a valve train having individual components dedicated to each of the plurality of combustion cylinders. One or more anomalous cylinders are first identified, among the plurality of combustion cylinders, that are operating at a level above or below a common baseline. Changes are then made to the individual components within the valve train, associated with the one or more anomalous cylinders, to provide the one or more anomalous cylinders with individual components having different operative ratings from their respective initial operative ratings so that the anomalous cylinders operate at or closer to a common baseline.

  • Publication number: 20080129006
Abstract: The present invention relates to a mobile vehicle or wheelchair having the ability to provide stabilized transport to at least one individual on a variety of surfaces, slopes and/or terrains. The mobile unit or wheelchair of the invention may travel across smooth and very rough surfaces, slopes of varying or different angles and various outdoor terrains (including grassy, rocky, sandy, muddy and/or hilly terrains). In one aspect of the invention, the height of any part of the unit or the overall height of the device may be adjusted preferably to raise or lower the center of gravity. For example, the height of the device may be lowered to provide more stable transportation. In another aspect, the device may be adjusted to increase or decrease the size of the footprint (or any part of the footprint) of the device. For example, the footprint of the device may be enlarged to provide more stable transportation.

  • Publication number: 20040146385
Abstract: A retractable ramp system 10 for a mobility vehicle. A ramp platform 12 is driven by a reversible motor 86, associated drive pulley 88, and drive belt 18 affixed to a ramp carriage assembly 14. A spring-loaded mechanical release assembly 98 is used to engage the drive pulley to the motor and to disengage the drive pulley from the motor. A manual control assembly is used for manual deployment of the ramp when the drive pulley is disengaged from the motor. Ramp flap 52 provides a transition between ramp platform 12 and a mobility vehicle. Ramp flap is supported by wheels 54 which translate along ramp platform 12. Linear bearing blocks 30 attach to pivot arms 44 of the carriage assembly, which are in turn pivotably attached to ramp platform 12. Linear bearing blocks 30 translate ramp platform 12 along guide shafts 32 during deployment and stowage.

  • Patent number: 6298568
Abstract: An apparatus holds a feeler gage. The apparatus includes a shaft having an end to which the feeler gage is attached. A fixture aligns the shaft with an opening into which the feeler gage is inserted. The opening may be a gap of a connector. A portion of the shaft is a measuring section having a plurality of markers. The markers are stripes, grooves, or lands on a portion of the shaft. The fixture comprises a channel, sleeve or bearing that guides the shaft onto the fixture. The fixture includes a ridge for insertion of the fixture onto a track. The fixture may have an alignment arm that engages a side surface of the connector. The fixture has a latch that attaches the fixture to the track. The latch of the fixture comprises two substantially parallel elongate members separated by a distance approximately equal to a width of the track.

  • Patent number: 6067229
Abstract: A device for housing electronic components that produce heat and must be cooled. The device includes a housing having at least one vertical wall that has an interior surface and a corresponding exterior surface. Rows of vains are disposed on the interior surface of the wall. Each row of vains contains a plurality of parallel vains having the same general dimensions. Adjacent rows of vains are not aligned. As a result, the vains on one internal row do not lay in the same line as vains from adjacent internal rows. External vains are disposed on the exterior surface of the wall, opposite the internal vains. The external vains correspond in position and number with the internal vains. Heat absorbed by the internal vains is transferred to the external vains by conduction, wherein the external vains dissipate the absorbed heat to the surrounding environment with an efficiency that is made possible by the configuration of the vains.

  • Patent number: 5746459
Abstract: A power door latch that eliminates the need to slam a door and that also allows the required two stage lock to engage. The OEM striker once engaged is driven toward the door frame in a linear motion, by a reversible electric motor that drives an acme screw within the drive housing. Adjustable limit switches detect full closure and full open to activate and deactivate the motor. A mechanical delay is incorporated within the drive housing to allow the engagement of the two stage lock mechanism. The power door latch can be used with any OEM striker in most vehicles. Additionally, the power door latch can be manually engaged in the event of a power failure.

  • Patent number: 5538119
Abstract: A gear transmission has a synchronizing arrangement associated with a helical gear that has end play. The synchronizing arrangement includes a shift sleeve having internal splines engageable with external teeth of a clutch gear that is an integral part of the helical gear. A torque lock feature is provided by cooperating back tapered torque lock surfaces of the splines and the external teeth of the clutch gear. The internal splines of the shift sleeve and the external teeth of the clutch gear are shaped to accommodate the end play of the helical gear and reduce variation in engagement of the torque lock surfaces.

  • Patent number: 5335898
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for woodworking and like applications to clamp structural members in abutting relation by initial formation of a pair of recesses in the structural members on a common imaginary line perpendicular to the intended joint line. The clamping apparatus has two clamping members each having an outwardly projecting engagement portion configured to fit securely in the recesses and a clamping mechanism actuable to move the clamping members and their engagement portions toward and away from one another for clamping movement along a clamping line coinciding with the imaginary line perpendicular to the intended joint line. The clamping apparatus may be used in forming virtually any edgewise abutting joint between respective structural members, e.g., miter joints, butt joints, linear edge joints, and radius edge joints.

  • Patent number: 4527324
Abstract: Described is a machine for pre-gluing raw circuit surfaces of printed circuit boards (P.C. boards) at an adhesive station and properly positioning the P.C. boards at a placement station for placement of leadless electronic components (chips) onto the adhesive. A carousel provides program preselected vertical supply of taped components to a feeder assembly which feeds individual chips onto a nozzle of a turret-type vacuum head at a pick-up station. The turret-type head has four nozzles spaced 90.degree. apart about the central axis of the head. As the turret is rotated, a chip is transported by a nozzle, sequentially, from the pick-up station to a centering and testing station, a centering and orienting station, and a placement station. Located between the testing and orienting stations is a chip removal station for ejecting defective or inverted chips. Sensors are located at the adhesive and placement stations to detect defective P.C. boards so that they may be bypassed.

  • Patent number: 4501183
Abstract: A feed assembly is engageable with feed holes spaced along the length of a taped supply of electrical components in order to index the taped components to a pick-up station and aid in transfer of the components from the tape to a turret-type vacuum head at the pick-up station. Cyclical actuation of the feed assembly actuates a cutter for that portion of the tape which has been emptied of the components.

  • Patent number: 4200325
Abstract: A web sling, such as one of the endless, standard eye-and-eye or twisted eye type, is made from a web of woven synthetic organic polymeric plastic strands, such as those made from nylon, aramid or polyethylene terephthalate filaments, with a lamina of elastomeric material, such as polyurethane, vulcanized or cured onto a load contacting area thereof. The elastomeric material penetrates surface openings between the polymeric plastic strands but may be prevented from penetrating through the web, when so desired. To assist the elastomer in holding tightly to the strands there is applied to the web before vulcanizing a thin coating of a curable adhesive material, such as resorcinol-formaldehyde.
