  • Publication number: 20050030729
Abstract: A surface emitting device includes a light source unit (21) and an optical light guide plate (22) coupling with light from the light source unit to produce a uniform light source surface. The light source unit comprises a light source (24) and a lamp cover (25). The lamp cover is substantially shaped as a hexahedron and defines a groove, which faces towards the light source. The groove is covered with a reflective film (255). With the reflective film, the groove functions as a concave mirror, and the light source is positioned along a focal line of the concave mirror.

  • Publication number: 20050028999
Abstract: An electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding enclosure (1) for a portable electronic device includes a first layer (10) and a second layer (12). The first layer is adjoins an underside of the second layer. The first layer includes an interface layer (101) and an inside layer (102) in which a great number of metal particles (1020) or thin metal plates are embedded. The second layer is joined with the interface layer of the first layer. Because the second layer and the interface layer are made of the same plastic material, very strong adhesion therebetween can be obtained. Moreover, the second layer is outside the first layer, the second layer protects the inside layer from impact and wear. As a result, EMI generated by the portable electronic device inside the EMI shielding enclosure reliably shielded over a long period of time. The present invention also discloses a method for making the shielding enclosure.

  • Publication number: 20050019442
Abstract: A light guide plate mold core (1) includes a main body (13) having a molding surface (12) and a plurality of concavities (13a) formed at the molding surface. The main body is made of a material whose thermal conductivity is limited in the range from 0.002 cal/cm.s.K. (calories/centimeter.second.Kelvin) to 0.009 cal/cm.s.K. The thermal conductivity of the material for the light guide plate mold core is less than that of stainless steel. Therefore the rate of spreading of heat in the light guide plate mold core is lower than that of a conventional light guide plate mold core, so that stresses within a formed light guide plate can be released more. Thus by using the light guide plate mold core, a light guide plate having a highly even bottom surface can be manufactured. A method for manufacturing the light guide plate mold core is also provided.

  • Publication number: 20040212978
Abstract: A light guide plate (200) for use in a backlight system includes a light incident surface (201), a light exit surface (202), and a bottom surface (203) opposite to the light exit surface. The bottom surface has a multiplicity of hemispherical pattern-dots (204) provided thereon, which are arranged in a regular manner. A projection of each pattern-dot on the bottom surface is circular, and each pattern-dot has a height (D) less than a radius (r) of the circle. Preferably, a height-to-radius ratio of each pattern-dot varies in the range from 0.067˜0.86. Thus the brightness of light beams transmitting out from the light exit surface is enhanced. Other embodiments of the light guide plate are also detailed herein.

  • Publication number: 20040208471
Abstract: A light guide plate (30) includes two opposite incident surfaces (31) for receiving light beams, an emitting surface (32) joining the two incident surfaces and a bottom surface (33) opposite to the emitting surface. The emitting surface has a V-shaped profile defined by two symmetric oblique plates (321, 322) slanting down toward each other at a predetermined angle. The surface light source incorporating the light guide plate is inexpensive and has higher intensity of illumination at the center region thereof. Thus a liquid crystal display incorporating the surface light source satisfactorily illuminate a main visible range thereof.

  • Publication number: 20040190824
Abstract: A tunable optical filter (30) includes a thin film waveguide (10) and a ring (308) surrounding the thin film waveguide. The ring can be mechanically pressed inwardly toward or pulled outwardly away from the thin film waveguide by external radial forces (306). A central wavelength of the tunable optical filter can be tuned according to the external radial forces. The thin film waveguide includes a substrate (102) and a multi-layered thin film (104) deposited on the substrate. The multi-layered thin film includes high refractive index layers (106) and low refractive index layers (108) alternately superposed on one another to form the multi-layered structure.

  • Patent number: 6798929
Abstract: A piezoelectric tunable filter (10) includes a ring (12) made of piezoelectric material surrounding a thin film waveguide (14), and an actuator (17) surrounding the ring. The actuator generates acoustic waves which apply external radial forces on the ring. Because the ring has piezoelectric properties, a periodic, high frequency piezoelectric signal can be generated by the ring and input to the waveguide to produce lattice vibration of the waveguide. The vibration can generate a fluctuating pattern of refractive index in the thin film waveguide due to the modulating effect of the signal. Thus, a periodic radial force of a predetermined frequency produces a desired vibration of the thin films of the waveguide, which in turn produces a desired refractive index in each film, which accordingly changes an optical thickness of each film.
