    Abstract: A method for making thin film filters having a negative temperature drift coefficient are the subject of the present invention. Such filters can achieve better optical control within an operational temperature range from ?5° C. to 70° C. degrees. A first embodiment of the present invention includes: 1. providing a substrate wafer which has a coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) greater than that of a selected film stack material; 2. polishing the substrate wafer; 3. depositing thin film layers made of the film stack material on the substrate wafer at a temperature substantially higher than room temperature; 4. cooling the substrate-film stack laminate to room temperature, thus forming a convex-shaped laminate; 5. cutting the cooled laminate into pieces. A second embodiment includes the steps of: 1. providing a laminate composed of a glass substrate and a film stack; 2. using at least one ion beam source to bombard the film stack of the laminate with high energy ions; 3.

    Abstract: A computer includes a motherboard, a heat-generating device mounted on the motherboard, a heat-conducting device attached to the heat-generating device for absorbing heat energy generated from the heat-generating device, and a thermoelectric converter coupled to the heat-dissipating device for converting the heat energy into electric energy for recycling use. The heat-conducting device includes a heatpipe. The heatpipe contains a working fluid, which has nano-sized particles therein. The nano-sized particles may be composed of carbon and/or a metallic material. The computer may include a heat-conducting plate interposed between the heatpipe and the heat-generating device. The thermoelectric converter may include a circuit with two strips connected in series, the strips each being formed of a different kind of thermoelectric metal. Corresponding ends of the two strips would be coupled to the heat-conducting device so as to receive heat energy therefrom.

A plurality of openings (170a, 170b) are defined in the side portion and communicate with the first room. Forced cooling air (172) is introduced into the first room to dissipate accumulated heat therefrom and into the external environment.

A method for manufacturing such mold includes the following steps: forming a NEOCERAM cuboid; machining a projecting part at one end of the NEOCERAM cuboid; machining a molding cavity in the projecting part; defining a cavity in the cuboid and integrally fixing a metal core in the cavity; and covering the surface of the molding cavity with a protecting film made of boron nitride (BN).

    Abstract: A DWDM thin film filter includes a substrate (11) and a film stack (12). The film stack comprises a plurality of cavities (13). Each cavity includes a first group of mirror layers (21), a second group of mirror layers (22), and a spacer layer (23). Each group of mirror layers includes a plurality of high refractive index thin films (31) and low refractive index thin films (32) alternately deposited one on another. The material of the high refractive index films is a composition of indium-tin oxide. In the preferred embodiment, a thin film filter having 160 layers of film can be produced. Such a thin film filter attains the same or better optical characteristics as a conventional DWDM thin film filter having 180 layers of film.

Each prism is shaped as a square pyramid. The prisms are arranged contiguously with each other, and sizes of the prisms gradually decrease from a thick end to a thin end of the block.

    Abstract: A light guide plate (10) includes a transparent plate (20), and a plurality of diffusing protrusions (30). The transparent plate includes an emitting surface (21), and a bottom surface (23) opposite to the emitting surface. The diffusing protrusions are distributed evenly on the emitting surface of the transparent plate, and are integrated with the transparent plate. The diffusing protrusions are hemispherical or sub-hemispherical, and a diameter of each diffusing protrusion is in the range from 10 ?m˜50 ?m. The light guide plate provides high emitting brightness and uniformity. The diffusing protrusions can diffuse light beams emitting from the emitting surface of the transparent plate, in order to achieve a plane light source having even brightness. The present Invention also discloses a method for fabricating the light guide plate.

    Abstract: A planar surface illuminator (20) for installation below a liquid crystal display panel includes a light guide plate (22) and a plurality of light emitting diodes (21). The light guide plate has a bottom surface (223), an end surface (221) and a number of dots (23) formed on the bottom surface. The light emitting diodes are positioned adjacent the end surface to irradiate the light guide plate. Shortfall areas (223a) in the light guide plate between each two adjacent light emitting diodes are lightened by placing special dots (23a) therein, which special dots are made of melamine-based fluorescent particles. The melamine-based fluorescent particles function as small light sources, thus lightening the shortfall areas. The brightness of the planar surface illuminator is thereby balanced.

    Abstract: A method for fabricating a molding core (700) for a light guide plate includes: (a) providing a substrate (500) having a photo-resist layer (600) coated thereon; (b) exposing and developing the photo-resist layer to form a photo-resist pattern (640); (c) coating a nickel film (720) on the substrate; (d) electroforming a nickel layer (740) on the nickel film; and (e) separating the nickel layer and film from the substrate and photo-resist pattern, the nickel layer and film thereby providing the core. The nickel film and the nickel layer use a same metal; that is, nickel. Thus, unlike in the prior art, there is no need for an etching step to remove the metal film after electroforming. The method has reduced complexity and cost. In addition, the pattern of the core is more similar to the predetermined pattern of the photo-mask. That is, the precision of the core is significantly increased.

The rectangular and circular dots reflect and scatter the light beams in directions toward the emitting surface. The rectangular dots are distributed on the bottom surface corresponding to lower luminance areas of the light guide plate, so that the luminance over the whole emitting surface of the light guide plate is uniform.
