  • Publication number: 20070256963
Abstract: A plugged filter detection system includes a valve housed within a cavity defining an initial inlet for receiving fluid at an inlet pressure before fluid enters a filter, a final inlet for receiving fluid at an outlet pressure after the fluid exits the filter, and a switch port for directing fluid to a switch to activate the switch. The inlet pressure biases the valve in a first direction and the outlet pressure biases the valve in a second direction substantially opposing the first direction. The valve is movable from a first position to a second position to unblock the switch port, thereby allowing the switch to be activated when inlet pressure is greater than outlet pressure. A spring preferably biases the valve in the second direction, such that inlet pressure must be greater than outlet pressure by at least the spring constant to allow switch activation.

  • Publication number: 20070241043
Abstract: A device for removing ferrous particulates from an oil stream within a motor vehicle includes a passage through which the oil stream flows and a magnet disposed within the passage. The passage defines a cavity in which the magnet is housed. The passage defines a substantially ninety-degree bend, such that particles suspended within the oil stream are propelled into the magnet before continuing along the passage. Preferably the device is disposed upstream of vehicle control valves, such that debris is removed from the oil stream prior to travel through the valves. Preferably, the cavity defines an overhang, which may be magnetic, with the overhang securing the magnet within the cavity and preventing particulates from re-entering the oil stream. An opening within the passage preferably defines the ninety-degree bend. The opening may be at least partially defined by the cavity. The magnet is preferably configured to be replaceable, removable, or both.

  • Publication number: 20070167267
Abstract: A pressure regulator valve is provided having a valve spool slidably disposed within a stepped bore defined by a valve body. A first pressure responsive surface area is defined on the valve spool and is subject to pressurized fluid from a main pressure source. A second pressure responsive surface area is defined on the valve spool and is subject to pressurized fluid from a control source. Additionally, a third pressure responsive surface area is defined on the valve spool and is selectively subject to pressurized fluid from one of the main pressure source and the control source. A sleeve is slidably disposed within the stepped bore, the sleeve being operable to selectively distribute pressurized fluid from one of the main pressure source and the control source to the third pressure responsive surface area to effect a change in pressure gain of the pressure regulator valve.

  • Publication number: 20070117671
Abstract: A powertrain has an electrically variable hybrid transmission having an electro-hydraulic control system, plurality of electrical power units, and a plurality of torque transmitting mechanisms selectively engageable by the electro-hydraulic control system to provide four forward speed ranges, a neutral condition, an electric low and high speed mode, and an electrically variable low and high speed mode. Additionally, the electrically variable hybrid transmission provides a parallel reverse mode and a series reverse mode. The present invention provides an improved electro-hydraulic control system having a multiplexed electronic transmission range selection (ETRS) and reverse dog clutch system for an electrically variable hybrid transmission.
