  • Patent number: 8783887
Abstract: A color/color temperature tunable light emitting device comprises: an excitation source (LED) operable to generate light of a first wavelength range and a wavelength converting component comprising a phosphor material which is operable to convert at least a part of the light into light of a second wavelength range. Light emitted by the device comprises the combined light of the first and second wavelength ranges. The wavelength converting component has a wavelength converting property (phosphor material concentration per unit area) that varies spatially. The color of light generated by the source is tunable by relative movement of the wavelength converting component and excitation source such that the light of the first wavelength range is incident on a different part of the wavelength converting component and the generated light comprises different relative proportions of light of the first and second wavelength ranges.

  • Patent number: 8077142
Abstract: Reflective, low-cost display pixels and displays incorporating magneto-optical elements wherein an externally applied magnetic field is perpendicular to an axis of rotation of the magneto-optical elements and parallel to a viewing plane of a display made from these elements. The display elements have a restricted rotation about their long axis which can be actuated by an external magnetic field to produce a bistable, electronically writable image. In addition, architectural modifications to this arrangement can be made such that the power required to write the image to such a display is decreased, overall display efficiency is increased and cross-talk between pixels is nearly eliminated.

  • Publication number: 20110194272
Abstract: A light source comprises a blue emitting LED operable to generate blue excitation light and a light emitting surface comprising a light transmissive substrate and a phosphor. The LED is configured to irradiate the light emitting surface with excitation light such that the phosphor emits light of a second wavelength and wherein light emitted by the source comprises a combination of blue light from the LED and the second wavelength light from the phosphor. The light emitting surface is interchangeable thereby enabling the source to generate different selected colors of light using the same LED. The phosphor can be provided as a layer on the substrate or incorporated within the light transmissive substrate. The light emitting surface can be configured as a waveguide or as a light transmissive window.

  • Patent number: 7815965
Abstract: A microdeposition system microdeposits droplets of fluid material to define a feature pattern on a substrate. The feature pattern for the substrate is defined. A mask is created for the feature pattern that reduces a density of defects that occur due to a malfunctioning nozzle of the microdeposition head. The droplets of fluid material are microdeposited onto the substrate based on the mask to define sub-features of the feature pattern. One of the nozzles of the microdeposition head is assigned to each of the sub-features in the feature pattern. The nozzles may be assigned randomly or using other functions. The assigned nozzles in the mask are assigned to one of a plurality of passes of the microdeposition head.

  • Patent number: 7757632
Abstract: A microdeposition system and method includes a head with a plurality of nozzles. A controller generates nozzle firing commands that selectively fire the nozzles to create a desired feature pattern. Configuration memory stores voltage waveform parameters that define a voltage waveform for each of the nozzles. A digital to analog converter (DAC) sequencer communicates with the configuration memory and the controller and outputs a first voltage waveform for a first nozzle when a nozzle firing command for the first nozzle is received from the controller. A resistive ladder DAC receives the voltage waveforms from the DAC sequencer. An operational amplifier (opamp) communicates with the resistive ladder DAC and amplifies the voltage waveforms. The nozzles fire droplets when the voltage waveforms received from the opamp exceed a firing threshold of the nozzle.
