  • Patent number: 6969845
Abstract: A system and processes for causing the simultaneity of events from two or more families of events are described. A repetition rate and modulus of each one the first families of events is determined. A second family of events has a controlled repetition rate that optimizes the simultaneity of a number of events of the second family with a corresponding number of events from the first family within a desired time period. The first families of events can be occurrences of scanning an image of a target across a detector element of a scanning imaging system. The modulus can be a number of lines per frame of the scanning imaging system. Laser pulses having a pulse repetition rate can be events from the second family of events. A system and processes may disable one or more scanning imaging systems by controlling a pulse repetition frequency of a laser output.

  • Patent number: 6690202
Abstract: In some communications circuits a phenomenon called duty-cycle distortion—that is, a distortion of the apparent duration of the pulses in clock signals—causes the circuits to read clock signals as having a different duration than intended. Accordingly, the inventors devised unique circuitry for correcting or preventing this distortion. One exemplary circuit uses a voltage divider, comprising a pair of transistors, to set the DC or average voltage of the clock signals input to the digital circuit at a level approximating the logic threshold voltage of the digital circuit. In another example, a feedback circuit drives the DC or average voltage of signals input to the digital circuit to match a reference voltage that is substantially equal to the logic threshold voltage. In both examples, equating the DC or average voltage of the clock signals to the logic threshold voltage of the digital circuit reduces or prevents duty-cycle distortion.

  • Patent number: 6552381
Abstract: A trench capacitor formed on an SOI substrate extends through an upper silicon layer and an insulating layer and into a semiconductor base substrate. The outer electrode of the trench capacitor includes portions of the semiconductor base substrate which bound the trench in which the trench capacitor is formed. The outer electrode is coupled to a contact structure formed in close proximity to the trench capacitor, and which extends through the insulating layer. The method for simultaneously producing the trench capacitor and contact structure includes forming two trench openings, forming a dielectric liner on one of the trench openings, then filling each of the trench openings with a semiconductor material.

  • Patent number: 6507220
Abstract: A typical occurrence in communication circuits, such as transmitters and receivers, is the internal transfer of a sequence of pulses, known as a clock signal, from an amplifier to a digital circuit. For proper operation, it is critical that the digital circuit accurately comprehends the clock signal. However, in some communications circuits a phenomenon called duty-cycle distortion—that is, a distortion of the apparent duration of the pulses in clock signals—causes the digital circuit to read the clock signals as having a longer or shorter duration than intended.
