Patent number: 9302012Abstract: An artificial tris-catecolate siderophore with a tripodal backbone and its conjugates with ampicillin and amoxicillin were synthesized. Both conjugates exhibited significantly enhanced in vitro antibacterial activities against Gram-negative species compared to the parent drugs, especially against P. aeruginosa. The conjugates appear to be assimilated by an induced bacterial iron transport process as their activities were inversely related to iron concentration. The easily synthesized tris-catecolate siderophores can be used with a variety of drugs as conjugates to target antibiotic-resistant Gram-negative bacteria.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 2013Date of Patent: April 5, 2016Assignee: UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME DU LACInventors: Marvin J. Miller, Cheng Ji, Patricia A. Miller

Publication number: 20150276730Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and kit for detecting bacteria in a sample. Substrate having a surface comprising an interdigitated Au electrode array and a plurality of siderophores specific to the bacteria and covalently attached to the surface. In one embodiment, the siderophore may contain a free OH (alcohol), amine, or carboxylic acid to which linker may be attached via ester (on the OH), amide (on the amine) or reverse the ester or amide using the siderophore carboxyl. The linker chain can then be short or long with and without heteroatom substitution to improve solubility as needed. The linker can terminate with a thiol which will react with a gold surface. Alternatively, the linker can terminate with another alcohol, amine or acid which can then be attached to corresponding functionality on the surface of choice.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 1, 2013Publication date: October 1, 2015Applicant: UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME DU LAC OFFICE OF TECHNOLOGY TRANSFERInventors: Marvin J. Patent number: 8917133Abstract: The clock generation method contains the following steps. In a pulse recognition step, an input pulse signal is first filtered to remove a shorter signal. Then, a width digitization calculation is conducted on the remaining pulse signal. Based on the width digitization calculation, a signal is recorded and a period of the recorded signal is determined. The value of the period is delivered to a gain module. In a step for verifying the input value to D/A converter, two values are input to a D/A converter from the gain module, and the output from the D/A converter is delivered to an oscillator. The gain module determines a desired input value from the gain module to the D/A converter. In a pulse generation step, the gain module inputs the desired input value to the D/A converter which in turn delivers to the oscillator for the generation of a corresponding clock.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 2013Date of Patent: December 23, 2014Assignee: M31 Technology CorporationInventors: Chih-Jou Lin, Yuan-Hsun Chang, Cheng-Ji Chang, Ting-Chun Huang, Yu-Sheng Yi
