  • Patent number: 8150414
Abstract: Methods for maintaining continuing existence of a next-in-line protecting device in a beacon network including a primary protecting device (PPD), the next-in-line protecting device (NPD) and a plurality of secondary protecting devices (SPDs). In one method, a subset of the plurality of secondary protecting devices periodically transmit beacon messages to the primary protecting device. When the next-in-line protecting device disappears, the primary protecting device selects a secondary protecting device from among the secondary protecting devices that have transmitted the beacon messages within a certain period to be a new next-in-line protecting device. In another method, the plurality of secondary protecting devices continuously monitor an existence of the next-in-line protecting device. When the next-in-line protecting device disappears for a certain period of time, a subset of the plurality of secondary protecting devices may contend to be a new next-in-line protecting device.

  • Publication number: 20120076038
Abstract: Coordinated multipoint communication is a technology for improving cell-edge performance for users in a cell-type mobile communication system. In order to enable a coordinated multipoint transmission/reception operation, a user equipment report of a local environment is required to select both coordinated communication modes and communication partners in evolved Node B (eNB) base stations. According to the present invention, a method is described for feeding back information from User Equipment (UE) to a serving base station to enable a coordinated multi-point transmission/reception operation. The information reported through the feedback is classified into two categories corresponding to received signal intensity information and received signal timing information. The UE may select one or both types of information from between the categories to provide feedback. In embodiments of the present invention, various overhead-reducing reporting formats are described.

  • Publication number: 20110300854
Abstract: Multiple Transport Blocks (TBs) or data streams are provided in Multi-Input-Multi-Output (MIMO) wireless communication systems herein. The base station (eNB) controls and schedules all downlink and uplink transmission to and from User Equipments, which need to receive an uplink grant from BS/eNB before they transmit. The uplink grant is carried as one of the control indication message in the downlink. The BS/eNB also transmits ACK/NACK information in the HARQ indication channel to the UE for each of the transport blocks. The UE detects the control indication to determine the actual uplink scheduling, as well as the HARQ indication. A method of transmitting a control indication message, which contains a detailed transmit format for one of the TBs to be transmitted, while allowing simultaneous communications on the other TBs is also enclosed.

  • Publication number: 20110123010
Abstract: A method and system for transmitting caller identification information during a conference call is disclosed. When a caller enters into a phone conference, the endpoint device he is using can subscribe to a notification service provided by the conference server. Thereafter, the conference server sends out a message with the phone number (or other indication) of the active endpoint device. Each time another endpoint device in conference call becomes the active device (e.g., someone using that endpoint device begins speaking), the conference server senses this and sends a new message to the endpoint devices indicating this change.

  • Publication number: 20110044250
Abstract: A method and apparatus for transmitting/receiving reference signals in Long Term Evolution (LTE) and LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) systems includes determining whether a dedicated reference signal is detected in a current subframe; estimating, if a dedicated reference signal is detected in the current subframe, a data channel using the dedicated reference signal to receive data; and estimating, if no dedicated reference signal is detected in the current subframe, a data channel using a common reference signal detected in the current subframe to receive data. The transmission scheme uses a DeModulation Reference Signal (DM-RS) for channel response estimation. To secure backward compatibility of the LTE-A system, a Common Reference Signal is transmitted in normal subframes.

  • Patent number: 7890049
Abstract: Apparatus and method for performing Automatic Retransmission reQuest (ARQ) in a wireless relay communication system are provided, which include performing ARQ with the base station (BS), transmitting data successfully received from the BS to mobile station (MS), and retransmitting corresponding data to the MS when a retransmission indication message is received from the BS. Since the relay station (RS) relays only the errorless data to the receiver, the reliability of the data received at the receiver can be enhanced. The load on the RS can be reduced because the transmitter controls the ARQ.

In the method for transmitting CBP packet in a transmitter that operates in a scalable Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) mode, a priority is given to each channel of one or more channels based at least partly upon channel use statuses of two or more neighbor Wireless Regional Area Networks (WRANs). Whether a Quality of Service (QoS) for CBP packet transmission for each channel is met is sequentially determined according to the respective priority. A channel having a highest priority is selected from the one or more channels meeting the QoS as a channel for CBP packet transmission. A CBP packet is transmitted via the selected channel.
